The new season is underway with a myriad of options. If you’ve read my blog before, you might remember that I have a litmus test for anime shows. I watch the first three episodes, and either I continue to watch the show or stop. There are three top contenders so far.

One show did not make the list because it is not a “new” show. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is in its second season and is, by far, the show of the season. If you haven’t watched this show, I highly recommend it. The show immerses you in a world where a deceased NEET is reincarnated into a world of magic. It is so much more than a normal isekai. The storyline is fantastic and is matched by its terrific character development. Season two is off to a great start. That said, I wanted to focus on the new content for my top three in the first half of the season.

My Happy Marriage

I mentioned this show in a prior post, and I have to admit that it is still my favorite show of the season (Jobless Reincarnation aside). I find myself waiting week after week for the new episode. We are introduced to Miyo, the eldest daughter of a prominent family. In this world, spirit magic exists. Miyo, unfortunately, did not inherit any spirit magic/sight. This causes her family to treat her as a slave in her own home while the youngest daughter with spirit sight is spoiled. Miyo is then kicked out of her own home under the guise of an engagement to a man with a negative reputation. At first, he is cold to Miyo even accusing her of attempting to poison him. However, he is drawn to her, and she to him. I think what draws me to this anime thus far is the potential for character development. Miyo is obviously an abused girl from an abusive family. I am looking forward to seeing her grow as a woman through the love of an unlikely source. There is another element. Miyo was promised to another family and that family is not pleased that her fiance is not kicking her out to the streets. To what lengths will this other family go to get Miyo?

The Great Cleric

In this isekai, a salaryman is shot and reincarnated into a world of magic. Luciel decides to become a cleric with healing magic. However, he is unaware that clerics exploit adventurers for their heals. In fact, many cannot afford to be healed and die. Luciel decides to be a “good” cleric and help as many adventurers as he is able. In his quest to raise his stats, he receives training from the adventurer’s guild in exchange for healing the adventurers. So far, I really enjoy this show. I get a lot of good chuckles in. I am excited to see the direction that Luciel goes and to what lengths the corrupt clerics will go to stop him.

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

This show is TOO sweet. Komura has a crush on his fellow classmate Mie. Mie is an airhead that constantly forgets, or breaks, her glasses despite having terrible eyesight. After a fortunate seating arrangement change, Komura is able to sit next to Mie. She begins to depend on Komura to help her through the day. As their interactions grow, so do their feelings. There really isn’t much more to elaborate on this show other than it is an adorable romance.

So far, these three shows have made it past my litmus test. I really enjoy all three shows and hope you give them a chance.

What shows are you watching this season?
