Episode 5: Ripples
Summary
At the house, Miyo looks at the new kimonos Lord Kudo ordered. She tells Lord Kudo that she can’t possibly accept such nice kimono, but he tells her to consider it thanks for the hair tie she made him.
Back at the Tatsuishi household, the head of the household, Koji’s father, shows Kaya how successful things are going between Lord Kudo and Miyo. Mr. Tatsuishi shows Kaya a picture of the happy couple, and Kaya realizes the beautiful man she saw at her house was Lord Kudo. Fueled by jealousy, Kaya tells Mr. Tatsuishi to leave it to her. She will have her father switch the engagements so that Miyo ends up with Koji. However, the spoiled brat doesn’t get her way. Her father denies her request. Instead of following her father’s wishes, Kaya goes to speak with Koji to put the notion in his head that he can marry Miyo if he helps.
At the Kudo household, Miyo is preparing dinner for Lord Kudo and his aide, Mr. Godo for helping her reunite with Hana. As Lord Kudo kicks Mr. Godo out of the car for being annoying, Miyo walks up in her cherry blossom kimono. Lord Kudo gasps at her beauty.

Later that evening, Miyo has another nightmare. This time, she is pushed by spirits into the memory of her being locked in the shed when she was little. Lord Kudo finds Miyo and tries to comfort her. He senses the traces of supernatural ability, but the barriers around his home have not been triggered.

The next day, Koji is walking toward his father’s home. He notices men in black driving off in a car. Recalling his conversation with Kaya, Koji wonders what scheme Koji’s father and Kaya are planning. He goes to see his father, but Kaya is already there.
That morning, Miyo and Yurie make a bento box for Lord Kudo. Miyo wears one of her new kimono. Yurie gives her a matching pouch that Lord Kudo had made for Miyo. In the process of leaving, Miyo forgets to transfer the amulet Lord Kudo insisted she keep with her at all times to the new pouch. After delivering the bento, Miyo realizes her mistake. Miyo and Yurie quickly leave to get home as soon as possible. In the process, the black car cuts off Miyo and they kidnap her.

Realizing that his father is going to do something deplorable, Koji confronts him but is quickly put into his place. Koji is left bound on the floor. His older brother Kazushi finds Koji and sets him free. Koji knows the only person he can turn to is Lord Kudo.
Thoughts
It is amazing the lengths everyone is going to make Miyo miserable. I am heartbroken that she is being treated as a thing, not a person. I am curious about Kazushi. This is the second time he has popped up. What is his importance? It is hinted he is a wanderer doing whatever he pleases, but he seems to pop up at the right time for Koji. I wonder if there is more to Kazushi down the line. I am also curious about the techniques Kaya is going to use to get Miyo to renounce her engagement. Will Miyo comply? Miyo is so frightened of Kaya. Will Miyo grow a backbone?
