EPISODE 6: REMOVE
A girl named Hinako is leaving for school. Her mother stops her before she leaves. The mother is overbearing and somewhat threatening. At school, Hinako sits alone on the rooftop eating her lunch. She thinks about how Planet is the only place she can escape her mother. As she thinks of Planet, a young Pico appears gazing at Ichi.
When class ends, Hinako’s mother immediately calls. Classmates ask her if she wants to hang out, but Hinako declines. On the walk home, Hinako locks eyes with a black cat and thinks of Ichi. She chases after the cat. During her pursuit, Hinako’s phone is ringing. Hinako finally catches up to the cat and can pet it. However, the same classmates showed up and the cat scratched her. Hinako’s classmates then invite her to walk home with them. They get crepes together and they even show her their secret spot.

When Hinako returns home, her mother is waiting. She yells at Hinako and asks her what she has to do as a mother to make her understand why she does what she does. Hinako yells back that her mother acts the way she does for her self-fulfillment. Hinako’s mother slaps her and for the first time, Hinako sees her mother’s anxiety and fear. Hinako tells her mother that she will no longer live that way.
Back in Planet, Pico is in the Captain’s quarters with Shiro Akabane missing an arm. He tells Pico that she’s just an AI. Shiro explains that the Black Bird is AI and Pico is a sub-AI. She begins to attack Shiro but is failing. Shiro explains that Pico must be one of the most important power sources of the Black Bird drawing thousands of emotions for the Black Bird. Shiro attacks again cutting off her leg.

Shiro begins to tell her life story as if he were reading a book. He then tells Pico that her real name was that of a colleague’s younger sister. They transferred her memory into the AI which became Pico. Pico tries to logout of the game, but cannot. Shiro explains that she never could log out. Instead, she was transferring to another world similar to Planet. Shiro kills Pico. Back in the real world, Pico is being uninstalled. Its last words were, “Ichi. I love you.”
THOUGHTS
Whoa. What a turn of events. Who would have ever guessed that AI could have progressed to the point of not knowing it was AI? And out of all the characters, who could have guessed it was Pico? The more we delve into the real world, the more I understand Ichi/Taichiro. His father is a complete ass who had no business having children. All he cares about is/was his quest to develop AI. He’s an abusive jackass. I would really like to know more about Taichiro/Ichi’s mother. I can only assume she keeps leaving because her husband is an asshole.
