EPISODE 1: UNTITLED

A young boy reaches for a stag beetle in the forest at night. Suddenly, a bright light appears. A young girl with an old man comes out of the light. She asks the boy his name and he introduces himself as Satou. She introduces herself as Hime. Hime asks Satou to never disclose what he has seen. In exchange, she promises to be his friend.

Ten years later, they are both in high school. Hime cooks Satou a feast for breakfast. However, Satou’s attention is drawn to her breasts. He catches himself and mentions she has changed a lot since they entered high school. Hime discloses that trying to keep a low profile with blonde hair wasn’t exactly working. Then, she stops and suddenly moves toward Satou’s face…to wipe off a piece of rice.

On their way to school, Satou’s eyes are once again diverted to her chest where two rings jingle together. Satou has a memory from their childhood where she tells Satou she will give one of the rings to the person she marries. She asks Satou to marry her when they grow up, but it is a child’s wish. Hime catches Satou looking at her chest and reminds him the rings are very important to her.

Finals have finished and Hime quickly shows her near-perfect score. She mentions to her friends that a princess has to be smart. Hime invites Satou to the local festival. She shows up in a yukata and takes Satou’s breath away. She teases him and he admits it embarrassing her.

Hime shares a memory with Satou about the same festival when they were children. They got lost and Satou held her hand so she wouldn’t get lost. She tells him he was her hero. They grab something to eat and then Hime sees a plushie that she wants at the shooting booth. She asks Satou to win it for her, and he manages to oblige.

They make their way to a secluded spot where Satou manages the courage to tell Hime how he feels. However, the fireworks interrupt him. Hime tells Satou that she has been keeping a secret. She tells Satou that she’s moving the next day and that she is happy she got to go to the festival with him before she moves.

Lying in bed, he remembers how he met Hime in the first place. He quickly rushes to the spot where he met Hime and is greeted by the same light he saw many years ago. Hime admits to Satou that she isn’t moving, she is returning home to another world to get married. She says her final goodbye and enters the light. Satou, in a split decision, rushes after Hime. As he enters the cathedral where Hime is, a monster appears.

The old man posing as Hime’s grandfather asks Satou what he is doing there. As he asks the question, the monster sends him flying across the room. The old man says that they need the Ring of Light. The old man orders Krystal (Hime) to give the ring to the prince she was intended to marry. However, seeing Satou in danger, she quickly rushes to his side and kisses him.

Her kiss seals the deal. She is now married to Satou. The prince throws his sword at Satou who has no clue how to use it. His ring makes the sword glow and he is able to slash the monster in half. Satou then passes out.

The next morning, Krystal (formerly known as Hime) greets him. Realizing what that means, Krystal tries to play it off as a duty rather than showing her true feelings. She admits that she chose him to be her nation’s hero. Later that day, he is presented to the people where he gives a rousing speech.

In the evening, during his soak, he realizes he let the whole hero thing go to his head. In walks a barely-covered Krystal. She quickly quips that it is expected of her since they’re married. Krystal apologizes for dragging him into her world. However, Satou quickly tells her that there is no other place he would rather be than by her side. She once again brushes off their marriage by calling it an impulse. Satou tells her impulse or not, he is happy. She asks if he likes her and he calls her someone very dear to him. Suddenly, a bell rings and they’re under attack. Half-dressed, Krystal and Satou make their way to the gates.

The old man tells Satou as long as he wears the Ring, it turns any weapon into a holy weapon. It grants the bearer strength and bestows the light of purification. Kissing him one more time, she tells her “honey” good luck in repelling the small invasion.

THOUGHTS

I originally did not want to watch this show, but I am glad I did. I believe it has the potential to be a great show for the winter season. Satou is a likable character, although he is a bit spineless. He can’t manage to tell Krystal that he loves her, instead opting to tell her she is dear to him. She was obviously searching for a confession. After all, she did marry him. On the other hand, she’s a wimp, too. She can’t manage to express her feelings for him as well. I hope this show has some good comic relief and the two protagonists can grow a little.

Will continue to monitor.
