SERIES SUMMARY

Yuki Itose is just a typical student dealing with the pressures of college. She is struggling one day on the train when an upperclassman named Itsuomi Nagi helps her out. As he gradually opens a new world to her, Yuki develops feelings for Itsuomi. A pure love story begins to grow.

EPISODE 1: YUKI’S WORLD

Yuki is on a walk and casually takes a picture of the falling snow. In her monologue, she is asking whether love is like snow falling from the sky coloring the world in its hue. On the train, Yuki introduces us to her life. She loves her friend Rin-chan who posts cute things on Insta. We learn that Yuki is in college. Suddenly, a foreigner taps her on the shoulder. She begins to panic. Then, a tall, handsome young man asks the foreigner if he needs help.

She breathes a sigh of relief. She realizes that she recognizes the young man as one of Rin-chan’s club mates. After the foreigner exits the train, Yuki turns to the mystery man and shows him her earpiece. Yuki begins to sign.

Realizing he probably does not understand sign language, she pulls out her phone to type a message. As she is typing, he stops her and asks if she can read his lips. He has no regard for personal space as he gets really close to her face. He then expresses how he never met anyone like her. She tells him via her phone that they go to the same college and that he is in Rin-chan’s cultural club. As he exits the train, he places his hand on her head and tells her he will see her later.

Yuki can’t hear anything, but could feel the vibrations from her heart. The next morning, she is in a good mood. In class, Rin-chan takes notes for her. After class, Yuki musters the courage to ask about the man she met on the train. Rin-chan pulls out a picture of him on her phone and Yuki is obviously smitten. She learns his name is Itsuomi and that he backpacks a lot. Rin-chan discloses that she has a crush on Itsuomi’s boss/cousin. She invites Yuki to go out to eat with her so they can see their crushes together.

A few nights later, the girls go on their “quest” to obtain their respective crush’s contact information. They enter the restaurant/bar and Itsuomi takes her breath away. Rin-chan thanks Itsuomi for helping Yuki on the train. When the cousin comes out and greets them, Rin-chan immediately gets nervous. While looking down at the menu, Itsuomi grabs Yuki’s head and makes her look up.

He asks her if she drinks and hands her a whiteboard. She tells him she is only 19 and can’t drink yet. Rin-chan tells Yuki that Itsuomi is trilingual. He speaks Japanese, English, and German. They both clap for him. Then, a group of regulars come in. One of the girls casually kisses Itsu.

Then, Rin-chan makes her move!

Losing her confidence, Yuki doesn’t end up getting Itsu’s contact information. Standing outside the store, Itsu calls for Rin and asks if she needs him to walk her home. Excited, Rin wrangles Itsu to walk Yuki home. On the walk, a motorcycle almost hits Yuki, but Itsu grabs her in time.

He ends up holding her hand. She musters her courage and stops him. She furiously types her request for his contact information. He says “sure thing” and asks how to say it in sign language. He messages her to ask which way they need to go. She messages back that they’re close enough to the station. As he walks away, she messages him again and asks if he thinks the world is a big place. He answers that it is huge, but it is the next message that takes her breath away.

THOUGHTS

This is probably the cutest, sweetest anime of the season. There is nothing like a love story with obstacles. How will their relationship progress? Will he learn sign language? Will his life experience crash with her inexperience?
