Anime: My Romantic Anime Suggestions

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. My husband and I celebrated this past weekend as we would not be able to do so during the week. I get home to late and am generally too tired to do anything during the work week. The husband took me to The Honey Pig. It’s a Korean BBQ restaurant. It’s so good.

Now, let’s talk romantic anime. I am a sucker for a good romantic anime. There is something about feeling that toki doki moment and smiling like a goon. I decided to narrow my suggestions to three anime that I adore.

Yuri on Ice!!!

If you know me, then you know I love Yuri on Ice!!! This show hits home in a lot of areas. It encompasses the competitive world of men’s figure skating. The protagonist suffers from anxiety and confidence issues. After failing to meet his expectations at a competition, he hits rock bottom. Fellow competitor, Victor Nikiforov, drops everything, flies to Japan, and surprises Yuri (naked might I add). Victor has left competitive skating to become Yuri’s coach. The show weaves the tale of two men finding their place in the world and navigating their growing attachment to one another. The animation is wonderful and so is the music.

Your Lie in April

Your Lie in April delicately weaves music and love together. Like Yuri on Ice!!!, the protagonist, Kosei Arima, suffers from mental trauma to the point that he can no longer play the piano. To stay tied to music, he composes and writes sheet music, but he is shackled by anxiety and fear. Then, he meets Kaori Miyazono. She’s a violinist that is a free spirit. She wants nothing more than Kosei to accompany her on stage. However, Kaori is harboring a dark secret. One that will rip your heart out. Prepare the tissues. Highly recommend.

A Sign of Affection

This show is currently airing and has not completed, however, I highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for a sweet love story. The protagonist is a college student named Yuki. Yuki suffers from congenital hearing loss and communicates with sign language, text, and lip reading. On a train, she meets Itsuomi who happens to be a senior at Yuki’s university. Yuki is innocent and pure. Itsuomi is well-traveled, multilingual, and lives a life that Yuki could only dream of. As they interact, their worlds begin to intertwine and love begins to bloom.

So, those are my three love stories that I would highly recommend to you all. What is your favorite romantic anime?
