Sometimes, you have to have a long-term goal.

A few weeks ago, I was walking to the mailbox at work and my legs were burning. It dawned on me how out of shape I was. Granted, I am obese and it shouldn’t have been that far of a reach to come to that conclusion. Thanks, diabetes and insulin weight gain!

We’ve started saving for our trip to Japan. Currently, the plan is to book in three years. The more I thought about it, the more I realized, in my current state, that I would not be able to keep up in Japan. We’d have no car. We’d be taking public transportation. We’re going to do a lot of stair climbing and walking. My fitness level is subpar.

My daily exercise level is close to none. I might get in 2,000 steps a day. I know, that’s horrible. I work in a law office and sit at a desk all day. I have decided to renew my gym membership and begin walking again. My goal isn’t necessarily to lose weight. My goal is to be able to walk consistently without feeling like my body is going to give up. You might be thinking three years is WAY too soon, but I don’t think so. I need to increase my stamina and health. There are more benefits to starting now than there are to wait a year before we leave. If I happen to lose weight, then great! But, my ultimate goal is to increase my walking stamina and distance.

Day one, my legs were super tight. It was pretty painful even though I stretched. Then, about halfway through, they started to limber up. So, I have to count that as a win! I made it 40 minutes. My goal is to be able to increase my speed and make it a full hour. I don’t plan to hit this goal for awhile. I want to take it nice and slow.

This week’s doodles

My marker work is getting better, but far from perfect. I know part of the issue is the paper I use. I just can’t justify the expensive paper for doodles. So, I compromise. You can clearly see the marker bleeds a bit. I hate the background on the shark picture. I don’t know what I was thinking. LOL. My male and female are generic anime characters. I was pretty proud of myself to do something original. I need more work!

That is a fantastic plan! I don’t think it’s too soon, because pushing the body too quickly isn’t good. Slow and steady is best to prevent injury. And oh my goodness, what better motivation than Japan??? 😍 I’m rooting for you to meet your health goals. And I need that cute giraffe for my son’s nursery 😁

  2. It’s never too soon to look after yourself. And, I think three years is a good time to start anyhow. It’s long enough that any set backs can be absorbed over time and you can take it slow, building up your stamina without overdoing it. Good luck. Also, love the shark unicorn with the rainbow.

    1. The sharklecorn was fun to draw! I agree about the setbacks. There will definitely be some, but I am determined to get into better health!
