EPISODE ONE: I REINCARNATED AS THE SEVENTH PRINCE
A set of eyes open with tears splashing on the floor. As he looks up, a group of privileged students look down upon him and tell him to cast his spell. He does, but it is so weak, it dissipates after hitting its target. The leader of the group tells him that lineage, talent, and diligence are needed to be a great mage. All things a commoner seemingly does not possess. The leader of the group casts a fire spell and murders the commoner. As the commoner writhes in pain, he thinks how wonderful the caster’s magic is and wishes to study magic more keenly in his next life.

After his death, he wakes up in a room filled with maids. He initially thinks they’re giants, then notices his tiny hands, and decides that he has to defend himself. Mustering up a spell, he blows a hole in the castle.

Our commoner was reborn as Prince Lloyd, the 7th prince of the kingdom. He lives a carefree life. After all, the chances of him sitting on the throne is zero. Prince Lloyd began speaking after birth, and read spell books instead of age-appropriate material. In other words, he is a prodigy. Prince Lloyd tries to out run his maids, but is caught by his main teacher, Sylpha.

Sylpha makes him go out to the courtyard to work on his swordsmanship. She notices he is getting strong every day. However, it isn’t fast enough for Prince Lloyd. He wants nothing to do with sword lessons and just wants to make it back to the library before dark. He enhances his abilities and sword with magic, but that does not deceive Slypha. Instead, she praises his magical abilities.

Prince Lloyd is subjected to bathe with all of the maids. As he protests, they tell him the story of the castle’s forbidden library and a demon that is sealed away in a book. Instead of scaring the young prince, he decides he is going to go on an adventure to find the forbidden library.
That evening, he casts a spell to make him “invisible” to the guards. He sneaks past the guards to a door that the guards say was protected with a spell cast by 10 of the country’s most powerful mages. With one swipe of his hand, Prince Lloyd breaks the chains. He enters the library in awe of the books contained within it. He quickly finds the cursed book containing the demon, Grimoire. Grimoire does his best to convince Lloyd to break his seal. He promises Lloyd “ancient magic” which Lloyd cannot resist. He frees Grimoire. Of course, Grimoire betrays Lloyd, but Lloyd was ready for it. He has Grimoire cast his best magic. Lloyd’s barrier is too strong. However, Lloyd can’t help himself. He touches the magic and lets it erode his finger.

Grimoire realizes the kid is crazy and tries to run. Lloyd has barriers up so he can’t escape. Lloyd then wants to see Grimoire’s defensive magic, but Grimoire can’t withstand the attack. Lloyd puts the library back to its original state. Grimoire decides he is going to pretend to serve as Lloyd’s familiar.

THOUGHTS
I am definitely on the fence with this one. I was a bit bored throughout the show. To me, there was nothing particularly compelling, but that could be because they really wanted to get some character development out of the way. Our main character is aptly relayed as a precocious 10-year old masochist. He loves magic so much, he doesn’t flinch at the pain it causes. In fact, he relishes in it. There is a dash of fan service and a sprinkle of harem. But mostly, I found very little to get hyped about. One thing I did appreciate is Prince Lloyd’s cherub-like appearance. His sweet, innocent looks are definitely deceiving! This one will get the three-episode test. If something doesn’t pique my interest, I’ll move on. Will continue to monitor.
