EPISODE ONE: I’LL BE GOING NOW

A young girl places her ticket in the train turnstile. Confetti falls and she is surrounded by a crowd wearing 7G headbands. She is whisked away by a owl drone to the top of a building where they are beginning the 7G Network Launch Ceremony. The girl introduces herself as Yoka. As the creepy MC spins his propaganda, Yoka stands in confusion. She is then instructed to push a 7G button to launch the world’s most advanced form of communication. 7G boasts instant communication by tapping directly into one’s thoughts. After a short countdown, she is prompted to touch the 7G button to “open the future”.

Except it doesn’t exactly go as planned. The world instantly becomes disfigured and distorted.

Two years later, the world has become post-apocalyptic. A girl named Shizuru Chikura is being scolded by an iguana because her career path form has “Look For Her” for every response. An announcement indicates the area is Agano Station District and that the Black Leopard caravan will be arriving. The townsfolk have all turned into various animals that can talk.

As the townsfolk banter, we learn that all people from Agano turned into animals and no matter where they go, they continue to turn into animals. Rumors swirl that in other areas, people turned into trees.

Two girls wander to the gathering place for the Black Leopard caravan. The caravan is running late. As they begin to fight, another girl stops them. We learn that the children turn into animals once they turn 21 and three months old.

The Black Leopard caravan arrives with goods for the town. The girl named Shizuru questions one of the Black Leopard employees. She wants to know if he has heard anything about the missing girl she is looking for. Unfortunately, he has no news. Shizuru then finds a recent newspaper and in the newspaper is a picture of the girl she is looking for. The girl she is looking for is Yoka. She rushes to Yoka’s grandmother to show her the picture. They are all relieved that she is alive. We learn that Yoka and Shizuru had a fight before Yoka left.

It’s night and Shizuru runs into an elderly man named Zenjiro-san. For some reason, he did not turn into an animal. He is looking for a hat. The neighborhood dog sniffs a part of the hat and leads them to an abandoned train. Shizuru places the hat on top of Zenjiro’s head and he turns into a young man. Zenjiro is spewing how researchers told them 7G threatened the laws of physics. He yells that he won’t let them take over Ikebukuro. This grabs Shizuru’s attention. After all, that is the last known location of Yoka. As Shizuru is learning Zenjiro knows how to operate the train, he turns back into the old man. She places the hat back on his head, but he doesn’t change.

A few days later, Shizuru arrives at school an announces she is dropping out of school. She has a large pack on her back and immediately runs off. She is running checks on the train getting ready to leave. The other three girls show up. She tells them he is going to ride the train to Ikebukuro. The train starts to leave and the other girls jump into the train. They have 30 stops left until Ikebukuro.

THOUGHTS

What the hell did I just watch?! What a crazy post-apocalyptic world! I was taken by surprise by the talking animals. What technology could possible turn the world into what it has become? Are there ulterior motives? The way Zenjiro talks, there is a bigger conspiracy that points to Ikebukuro. What awaits the girls at each stop? We know from the conversations of the townsfolk that each area was cursed with different things. Will those curses affect the girls? There is so much that we don’t know. I am not sure how I feel about this show, but it will get the proper three-episode prong test. Will continue to monitor.
