EPISODE 4: LOVE 4. THE PRETTY BOY BECOMES FRIENDS

In the forest, Ruka meets with “The Founder” who looks suspiciously like Komori. It is obvious that The Founder is the current top dog of the vampire world. The Founder reminds Ruka that he can’t fall for anyone except his “destined partner.” Then, Ruka can ascend to take The Founder’s place. Ruka swears not to fall in love with anyone.

Back at school, Mito asks Juri and Takara if they have seen Ruka. Apparently, Mito hasn’t been able to catch Ruka. It is obvious that Ruka is avoiding Mito. He hasn’t fed since the camp. Mito finally sees Ruka. She confronts him and tells him that he hasn’t fed. She drags him to an empty room and begins to bare her neck. He says he is not hungry. But, Mito gives him the puppy dog eyes and asks him to drink.

Ruka loses his temper and tells Mito he’s not hungry. Through the window, Komori, as a bat, is watching. At work, Komori brings her tea. It is obvious she is distressed. She confides in Komori and Komori responds that Mito is kind. Ren shows up at the café to visit. He whisks Mito away when he realizes she is putting up a front. Komori stirs the pot and taunts Ruka by telling him Ren whisked Mito away. Ren takes Mito to town. He didn’t know what to do to cheer Mito up, so he tells Mito she can do whatever and he’ll support her. They walk up to a dress store and Mito’s eyes light up. Ren tries to stop Mito saying it is a store for girls. However, Mito sees a dress she likes and asks to try it on.

Instead of making a fuss, Ren exits the store and tells Mito he will wait until he is done. In the dressing room, Mito considers whether Ruka would like her in the dress. Just as she begins to daydream, two female patrons are overheard talking about Mito as a man in the dressing room. They want to be mean and take a peek. Before they can, they are interrupted by Ruka.

Ruka enters the dressing room with Mito. She looks up at him with doe eyes and thanks him. Taken aback, he asks Mito what she’s wearing. She admits that she was wondering whether the dress would prompt him to drink from her again. Ruka stares intently at her and responds that he wants to feed on the feminine version. However, he sees Mito as an important friend. He encourages Mito and tells her she doesn’t need to pretend to be a woman. He will love her as a friend. Just as Ruka was about to feed, Ren burst in. As they banter, Mito laughs and thanks both of them for being her friend.

Back at the dorm, Mito notices her necklace has turned from blue to orange. Excited, she tells Ruka. Out of thin air, Komori appears to congratulate them on the good news. Komori draws a bath with rose petals for Mito and gives Mito a special strawberry scented cologne to prepare herself for Ruka. When Komori comes out of the bathroom, Ruka calls him out and asks what Komori is plotting. Komori reinforces that Ruka cannot fall in love with Mito and to be careful. Mito is exuding more pheromones than normal. After her bath, she appears to Ruka in a bathrobe. She tells Ruka that her taste must have improved because Ruka and Ren love her as a friend. Ruka doesn’t like this response.

He begins to feed, however, she interrupts him by asking how she tastes. It is only then that he stops and realizes she tastes not like rotten curry, but now, a rotten strawberry. He excuses himself to take a bath to make himself feel better. In the bathroom, he realizes that he was so into it, he forgot how bad it tasted. He struggles with his feelings. Does he like Mito? He can’t because he’s a boy. Ruka comes to the conclusion that Mito should get a girlfriend.

Turning to Juri and Takara, they set up a mixer with four girls from their sister school. Juri decides he doesn’t want to go so Ren is forced to step in. When the girls arrive, the lead girl asks to speak with Mito alone. Immediately, Ren and Ruka are surprised. Takara pushes Mito towards her and they go on a walk. Ruka and Ren are spying on the couple. As a car passes too close to the girl, Mito quickly pulls her toward. The girl is surprised, and the look on her face makes Ruka decide to go home. Ren mentions he looks like his heart was broken.

Just when Mito thinks she is going to confess, she confesses that she admires Ruka instead. Mito has mixed feelings. Mito’s heart hurts, but she also knows Ruka only loves her a friend. She comes to the conclusion that she should support the other girl’s feelings because she should want Ruka to be happy. She tells the girl that Ruka doesn’t have a girlfriend and that it wouldn’t bother him if she confessed. As the two part ways, Ren walks up to Mito. Mito turns around and a tear falls from her face. Sad, she asks Ren if she can put her head on his shoulder for a bit. Just as he is about to hug her, something happens.

THOUGHTS

Can it be? Could I have actually been right? Could Ren be a vampire? Ren is definitely hiding something from Mito.

What is up with Komori? Who exactly is Komori? When he is in vampire form, he appears to be The Founder/leader of the vampires. Why does he act as a butler to Ruka? I am assuming they are related somehow. That being said, what exactly is Komori plotting? Does he know that Mito is a female and is playing devil’s advocate to get Ruka to pine for Mito regardless of gender? Is this the only way that Komori/The Founder can get Ruka to wake up from his 2D world and find his destined partner. There is so much to consider. Will continue to monitor.
