List three books that have had an impact on you. Why?

Le Morte d’Arthur by Thomas Malory

I had to read this book as part of my summer reading for an advanced placement English course. I dreaded reading it because it sounded terribly boring. However, it ended up being one of my favorite books. It taught me to not judge a book by its cover. Literally. Look at the cover art. HA! I enjoyed the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The drama! It was the beginning of my love of everything fantastical. I ended up really getting into Dungeons & Dragons after reading this book. It really opened my mind to role playing and period pieces.

The Hot Zone by Richard Preston

I read this book back in high school and it was an eye-opener. It made me realize how something so small could have such a devastating impact on the world. It documents viruses such as Ebola and Marburg that causes hemorrhagic fevers/symptoms. The Hot Zone definitely made me think about the unknown in the world and how little we still know about it. I credit The Hot Zone for preparing me mentally for the Covid pandemic. I understood the seriousness of virus that can’t be readily treated and that are highly communicable.

Codependent No More by Melody Beattie

After my divorce from my first husband, I went through a lot of therapy. This book helped me the most. I am a child of alcoholism and part of that is growing up with codependency. You tend to control others at the expense of one’s own health. This book helped me identify my own toxic behaviors and what I could do to find my own mental peace and let go of control.

Any books that created an impact in your life?
