EPISODE 8: LOVE 8. THE PRETTY BOY HAS A FATEFUL ENCOUNTER

We are returned to the scene of Mito’s identity reveal. However, Ren can’t just let Mito succumb to the poison coursing through her veins. He apologizes and then sucks out the poison.

Back at the castle, the vampire clan is scolding Ruka. They’re afraid that if he doesn’t become a true vampire, the country will go into ruin. Ruka, not standing down, is a it cheeky with everyone. A vampire elder approaches with a crystal ball and tells Ruka she knows what his destined partner looks like. She shows Ruka an image that looks a lot like Mito, except his destined partner is female and can’t be Mito. Ruka dismisses her “fortune.” However, the Founder knows he would have rather seen Mito in the crystal ball. Once again, he urges Ruka to forget his feelings for Mito. As they are conversing, the crystal ball begins to glow again. The elder states that he is going to meet his destined partner that night.

Back at school, Mito is having a nightmare. In her nightmare, she is dreaming that Ruka tosses her aside once he knows she is a female. When she wakes up, Ren is by her side. She immediately begs him to not tells. In tears, it is obvious that she doesn’t want to leave Ruka’s side. In a gesture of comfort, Ren tells her that her secret is safe with him.

To buy his silence, he tells Mito that she has to go out with him. He takes her to a dress shop where he tells her he will buy her anything from the shop. She picks out the same dress that the elder saw in the crystal ball. Ren, while waiting on Mito outside, is kicking himself for not noticing sooner. However, when she walks out, he is taken by her beauty. He asks Mito why she dressed as a boy, but it became very clear as everyone began to only notice her for her looks. She explains to Ren that she was sick and tired of it always being about her face. It never brought her anything good. Ren takes her into his arms and tells her, once again, that he’ll protect her.

Just as he gets the words out of his mouth, a student from the dorm asks Ren to introduce him to the pretty girl. He whispers to Mito to run back to the dorms while he keeps the other guy busy. As she runs to the dorms, she stops at a fountain. She wonders what Ruka would think if he saw her in that dress. Just as she wishes it, he shows up. Startled, Mito drop her purse. As he bends down to help her, their eyes meet and he recalls the elder’s prediction.

After he helps Mito with her things, he invites her to talk to him for awhile. He admits that he doesn’t know what to talk to girls about since all he does is watch anime. So, Mito asks him to talk about anime. They get distracted by a dolphin light show. Ruka tells Mito that he feels like they’ve met before. To break the mood, she asks Ruka to buy her some gelato. He goes to wipe some off her face and then instantly tries to drink her blood. They are interrupted by the gong of the clock and Mito panics saying she needs to go home. Ruka tries to get her name and contact information, but she tells him they can never meet again. As she runs off, Komori shows up. He tells Ruka that he has met his destined partner. Now, what is he going to do?

Ruka chases after Mito, but Ren interferes by hiding Mito. When she thanks Ren, he pulls her in to a kiss. He declares that he doesn’t care if she’s a man or woman, he wants to protect her as his lover.

A man is drinking some wine. We find out that it is Ren’s father and that something will happen on Ren’s 17th birthday.

When Ruka returns home, Mito is waiting. He’s happy to see Mito, but he has the mysterious woman on his mind. They go to sleep and Mito crawls into his bed only to hear Ruka say he wants to see her again.

THOUGHTS

We are FINALLY getting somewhere. Mito’s dream is slowly falling apart while Ruka’s dream is finally becoming clear. They’re both too stupid to realize that they already have each other. Let’s talk Ren. I am still Team Ren. Maybe it is because his love doesn’t come from some supernatural force that says they can’t be apart. He truly wants to protect her from everything.

Let’s talk Komori/the Founder. That scoundrel knows. He has been manipulating the situation to get his son out of his anime fog and into becoming the true vampire.

What about Ren’s father? They kind of threw that at us. What does he mean if he makes a wish? Does that mean that he could become a “true” vampire and rule the vampire world if he steals Ruka’s destined one? Because that is the vibe I am getting. Will continue to monitor.
