EPISODE 9 – LOVE 9. THE PRETTY BOY GOES TO A PARTY

Ren receives a call from his father requesting Ren make an appearance at their mansion. He baits Ren with the fact that Ren’s mother is “looking forward to it.”

Back at the cafe, Komori has asked the staff to show up in normal clothes. Komori announces that the cafe will be undergoing renovations. The staff is excited, until they learn Komori intends the staff to do DIY projects. Mito is a bit distracted by Ruka. Ruka hasn’t mentioned the mystery girl to him, but it is obvious Ruka is distracted by it as well. As the staff is moving furniture outside, Mito tries to move a heavy table. Ren saves her from herself and tells her he will carry the heavy stuff. Mito has a flashback of Ren’s kiss.

Their interaction catches Juri’s eye and he asks Mito whether something happened between Mito and Ren. Mito admits that Ren confessed. As Takara brings Mito paint, he trips and spills paint all over Mito. Immediately, Ruka sheds his shirt for Mito.

Ruka expects Mito to change in front of all the guys, but she obviously can’t. Ren interferes and offers for Mito to change behind him. Ruka and Ren are glaring daggers at each other. Juri breaks the tension and asks Ruka, Ren, and Mito to go buy more paint. At the paint store, Mito is clumsy and is almost flattened by a sheet of plywood. Ruka dives in and stops the wood. He lectures Mito to be careful, but as he looks into Mito’s eyes, he sees his fated partner. Ruka asks Mito if she’s gained weight pissing her off. She walks off, but not before Ren brings up the mystery girl he was with.

Ren tells Ruka to back off of Mito if he is into someone else. Ruka admits that he met his destined partner. It dawns on Ren that he means the female version of Mito is his destined partner. Ruka tells Ren the story of a girl that befriended him when he first became a vampire. He ended up biting the girl and never saw her again. He vowed never to drink from a woman and to never fall in love.

Ren tells Ruka that he confessed to Mito and that he is going to do all he can to protect him. Ren is going to do everything in his power to make sure Ruka doesn’t find out Mito is a woman.

Back at the cafe, the crew realizes that they have a lot of work to do before they can open up. They decide to sleep in shifts. Juri volunteers Mito and Ruka, but not without Ren. As they lay in the futon, Ruka asks Mito how she feels about Ren. She admits that Ren is always looking out for her. Ruka finally admits he has found his destined partner. However, Ruka is being a bit selfish. He asks Mito to always remain by his side even if he marries his destined partner. As Ruka falls asleep, Ren tells Mito to go out with him the following Saturday and he will show Mito what happens to destined partners.

Ren takes Mito to his parent’s house. There, the entire staff greets Ren. Mito finds out it is Ren’s 17th birthday and that they’re making preparations for the party. Ren’s mother immediately knows that Mito is a woman. She takes Mito to a closet and dresses her up so that she is beautiful.

Meanwhile, Ruka arrives to the party with Komori. Komori states that he has connections with the host. As Ren’s parents begin the festivities, they introduce Ren and Mito as engaged. Right as the clock hits midnight, Ren drinks Mito’s blood and wishes to make her his.

Mito stops him and runs away, except Ruka follows her. Ruka tries to comfort her. In the process he offers to get him out of the dress, except a surprise follows:

THOUGHTS

WHOA! What a turn of events! They gave enough information last episode to guess that Ren’s father was up to no good. What I did not expect is the wish to turn Mito into a man. I did not see that coming! Ren did say he would love Mito as a man or woman. Now, here’s Ren’s chance!

I am STILL Team Ren. Can we talk about how selfish Ruka is? Despite knowing that the mystery girl is his destined partner, he’s asking Mito to stay by his side even if he marries her! What gall! I like him less and less each episode.

That being said, Ren is also kind of being selfish by taking Mito’s blood without her permission or her knowledge of what would happen.

I am looking forward to what drama next week brings! Will continue to monitor.
