Quick Recap: The gang goes to Hokkaido for a class trip. At the class trip, Aoki manages to confess a second time. Hashimoto finds the courage to tell Aida that she likes him. Aida suggests that they start dating. Hashimoto tells Aoki that she was rejected by Aida.
Chapter 14. Up on the rooftop, Ida and Aoki are eating lunch together. Aoki is self-conscious about them dating. He tells Ida to not tell a soul. However, Ida has already told everyone on the volleyball team. Aoki gets upset and tells Ida he is through with him. Aoki and Aida go to karaoke where they talk about their love woes. Aida tells Aoki to make up with Ida since it is before Christmas. Aoki refuses.
On Christmas Day, Aoki doesn’t have any plans, so he spends the day selling Christmas cakes for his sister. Aida and Hashimoto show up. When Hashimoto finds out that Ida hasn’t even called Aoki, she calls Ida to chew him out and tells Ida that Aoki is upset and crying. She tells him where to find Aoki. While selling cakes, a couple gets into a fight about what cake to choose. Aoki brings them back to Earth while realizing what a mistake he made with Ida. Just as he has his realization, the line gets long. He calls out to the bakery to send help and is surprised at who shows up.
Chapter 15. Ida shows up because he thinks Aoki is shaking and crying. However, he gets roped into selling cakes. After they sold out of cakes, Aoki gets a lecture about being good to his friends. She gifts Ida a cake. As Ida and Aoki walk together, Ida tries to give Aoki the cake because he wanted one. Instead, they decide to eat it together. Aoki gets cream on his face. Ida goes to wipe it off embarrassing Aoki. Ida pretends that he is going to eat it. Ida is having fun teasing Aoki.
In a flashback, we learn that Ida went to the volleyball team and told them that he wasn’t dating Aoki. However, it was obvious he was lying. Ida’s friend helps Ida out to clear up the “miscommunication.”
Chapter 16. We change gears to Hashimoto and Aida. On Christmas Day, they went to see lights together. Hashimoto admits to Aida that she wants to talk to him more like Aoki does. Aida comes up with the idea of nicknames. He asks Hashimoto to call him Akkun like Aoki does. She isn’t able to still calling him Aida. He gives Hashimoto the nickname of Sumo Hashi. While doing clean up, Hashimoto tries to do things to get Aida to notice her as a girl. First, she asks him to reach her purse. Instead, he sweeps her off her feet when he asks if she’s being bullied. Second, she tries to get Aida to open a soda for her. He ends up taking a drink and Hashimoto thinks she is going to get a chance at an indirect kiss.
Just then, another student comes looking for Aida. Apparently, the girl he was “dating” had a boyfriend that she broke up with. Hashimoto tried to intervene, but instead, Aida gets punched in the face. With resolve, Hashimoto tells Aida that she is going to live up to her Sumo Hashi nickname and protect Aida. Aida then admits that when she suggested he call her by her first name, he became embarrassed. That is why he came up with Sumo Hashi.
Aoki wonders why being called by your first name is such a big deal. So, on the way home, he asks Ida if anyone calls him by a nickname. Then, he asks if Ida knows his first name.
Chapter 17. Aoki is struggling with the fact that Ida has never truly expressed how he feels about Aoki. The spent the first visit to the shrine together, but not before a group of his friends showed up. In the boys’ locker room, Ida’s friend brings up the fact that Aoki seems lonely. Ida can sense it, but has no idea why. Ida’s friend hits him with the hard truth. Ida can’t say no to people in need. Ida’s friend points out that he isn’t doing right by Aoki if he isn’t being honest about his feelings.
Ida asks Aoki to come over and spend some quality time together. While playing games, Aoki accidentally spills a drink on Ida. Not worried about the situation, Ida begins to bear his abs. Aoki is embarrassed. Ida is having fun teasing Aoki.
Aoki gets mad at Ida again making Ida question whether he really likes Aoki. If he did, he wouldn’t do things that put Aoki on the spot.
Talking to his friend, Ida realizes that you tease the person you like. He comes to the realization that he likes Aoki. Just then, Aoki shows up to be beat him at the game. As he beats Ida, he tells him that he’s been training for that moment. Ida is amazed that Aoki knows his feelings. Ida then admits he likes Aoki.
THOUGHTS
I know I’ve said it multiple times, but I love Ida. He’s so innocent and wholesome. I still don’t like Aoki much. He’s quick to judgment and is harsh with Ida. I get that he wants a straight answer from Ida, but breaking up with him rather than talking to him is so immature. They’re in high school. Of course they would be immature, but it still bothers me. I am hoping now that they’re on the same page, they can learn more about each other and become an actual couple.
