SERIES SUMMARY
It is common knowledge that it is best to become an adventurer when you are as young as possible because the magical power that is the basis of an adventurer’s strength will hardly grow if you don’t train it while you are young. But this man, Rick Gladiator, who became an adventurer when he was over thirty years old, had the combat power of an S-rank adventurer, the highest rank in the world. In fact, Rick has lived an unimaginable life with the members of the legendary Orihalcon Fist, a party of the continent’s strongest adventurers. From dragons to vampires, Rick’s fighting prowess, trained by his literal “monster” mentors, allows him to defeat elite adventurers one after another who try to underestimate him.

EPISODE 1: STARTING 12 YEARS LATE
A man flies through the air commenting that he is going to die. A group of four look down upon him stating he has shaped up well during the two years of their training. Our protagonist arrives in town for his E-Rank test. The clerk recognizes him as Rick, a former employee of the guild. Their conversation gives us information that he suddenly quit work to become a 30-year-old adventurer. While conversing, a drunk adventurer tries to solicit the clerk. Rick calmly grabs the man and places his hand on his chest. The man suddenly passes out. Rick receives his exam ticket as number 4242 which immediately causes a reaction with Rick because the number sounds unlucky. They examine the drunk and find an impression of a hand in the middle of his steel armor. The clerk immediately thinks of Rick.

During the first test, Rick is instructed to put his hand on a crystal to measure his magic. When Rick puts his hand on the crystal, the light fizzes out. He is graded as a F minus but as he walks out of the room, the crystal suddenly breaks. The next test is of their physical strength. They are instructed to hit a slime bag as hard as they can. Rick flashes back to his training.

A young boy steps up and the other applicants are talking about how he is a child prodigy. He casts his spell and Rick exclaims how tiny it is. Rick flashes back to his training and recalls the fire magic he was up against.

It’s Rick’s turn. Before he could do the test, the examiner tells him he should quit due to his age. Rick, mustering all his strength, crushes the green slime back flinging the slime all over the place.

The next test is defense ability. Once again, Rick shows incredible skill. The young prodigy is upset that Rick keeps stealing his thunder. The examiner is upset that his highest-level skills aren’t putting a dent in Rick’s defenses. A knight shows up by the name of Sir Sylvester to investigate why such a high-level spell was used. He is brought up to speed that Rick has blocked a level 5 spell with a level 1 spell.
After the written exam, Rick is talking things over with one of his trainers. The young prodigy, Freed, approaches Rick and yells at him for ruining his debut. He starts to cry and his sister, Angelica, comes to his aid. She throws a glove at Rick. He picks it up accepting a duel.
At the duel, Angelica states that they each can have one condition for the duel. Her condition is that the loser must be the victor’s servant until death. Rick learns that she is equivalent to a B-Rank adventurer. His trainer tells him to go easy on her, however, Rick is more worried that she is going to beat him. His trainer, Reanette, tells him to remember his training and remember that the continent’s strongest party, Orichalcum Fist, considers him a member.
The duel starts. Angelica is considered super fast, however, Rick has to do a double-take because she’s slow to him. Angelica keeps using her super speed over and over as Rick dodges all of her attacks. She uses her special attacks only to be continually dodged. In one of her attacks, she trips and Rick thinks it is a special attack. He is convinced she is more powerful than he. As she attacks again, she trips and Rick punches the ground leaving a huge crater. Immediately, Angelica surrenders when she realizes his strength. As she leaves, Rick reminds her of the promise and how he wants to use the same one. She musters the last of her strength to run away.
THOUGHTS
What a funny show. It’s your run-of-the-mill strong guy doesn’t know his own strength anime, but I like it so far. I am interested to see where it takes us. I like Rick. He seems like a wholesome dude. I wonder if Angelica will keep to her promise and adventure with Rick as his servant. I’m not sure I like that, though. She’s a bit annoying. Maybe even Freed rounds out their party? Looking forward to future episodes. Will continue to monitor.
