Quick Recap of Episode 1: Mao and Hisashi are roommates. Hisashi is gay. Mao and Hisashi made three promises to each other: Not to out Hisashi, Hishashi won’t make moves on Mao, and they would give each other proper “alone” time. Mao’s film club decides to film a BL movie. The director has his eyes set on Hisashi, however, something is stopping Mao from asking Hisashi. He doesn’t want Hisashi to think he outed him. In reality, Mao realizes he might have feelings for Hisashi.
EPISODE 2: PICK ME
The group is getting ready to film. The assistant director is introducing Hisashi to the rest of the cast and crew. The director is hiding because he is behind schedule. Meanwhile, Mao is scouting locations for the shoot. Hisashi finds Mao and they have a short conversation. Hisashi asks if they’re going to be apart for a majority of the shoot, and Mao agrees. Hisashi tells Mao that his social battery is running low and then admits that maybe it is because he wasn’t getting enough Mao.

Hisashi leans his head against Mao’s and says he needs to recharge. Mao reflects on how each of these small moments have probably led up to his feelings changing for Hisashi.
A few days have passed and they have made it to the start of the shoot. Mao is on a video call with the director going over a few last-minute things. The director asks about Hisashi and tells him that he is not available. Just then, he hears a thud at the door. He lets the director go and finds Hisashi with a swollen face. He tells Mao he got dumped. Mao uses this as his chance to tell Hisashi how he feels.

Hisashi reflects upon his past. We learn that his mother had remarried and he gained a younger sister. She climbed on top of him and his mother walked in. The misunderstanding led to Hisashi being ostracized from his family. That’s when his homeroom teacher took a liking to him. They entered a secret relationship. It was a toxic relationship. That night, Hisashi didn’t beg his sensei to not leave. He told him off calling him a pedophile and a few other choice words. All Hisashi could think about was Mao waiting in their dorm room.

Hisashi realizes that he likes Mao and has no idea when it happened. Not wanting to break his promise to Mao, he tells Mao to move toward him and kiss him. They kiss, but Mao suddenly runs off. Mao doesn’t go back to the room and Hisashi is left wondering if he messed everything up.
The next day is a shooting day. Hisashi is unfocused. Take after take, his heart isn’t in it. He is thinking about what happened the night before. Mao asks the director for a 15-minute break. He buys snacks and sits with Hisashi. All Hisashi can think about is why Mao ran away. When he tries to talk to Mao about it, Mao tells him he doesn’t want to talk about it until after the shoot. If he wants things to change, he has to take the film seriously.
THOUGHTS
Of course things would end up awkward! Mao wasn’t thinking at all. He literally confessed after a breakup. That was kind of shitty of him to do along with running away. He initiated the kiss and even confessed that he would never hurt Hisashi, and then he does exactly that. I guess you can’t blame someone who has never been in love and doesn’t really know what that means. I’m not really happy with Mao. Now, he even put a condition on their conversation. Make it through the movie and we’ll talk. Grrr.
