EPISODE THREE: OUR FEELINGS AREN’T ALWAYS PRETTY

After their conversation about taking things seriously before they talk about their relationship, filming resumes and Hisashi is doing a great job. The same can’t be said for Mao. The director confronts him and tells Mao that his head is up in the clouds. The assistant director is able to step in and save Mao from a scolding. The assistant director brings up the fact that the next day is the kissing scene. It is obvious Mao is in some discomfort. That night in their dorm room, it is awkward between Mao and Hisashi. Hisashi decides that he is going to go to the lounge to memorize his lines. Mao is reflecting on the day and trying to convince himself to get things together.

It is time to film the kissing scene. As the scene progresses, Mao is having dark thoughts. He doesn’t want to see Hisashi kiss anyone else. When Hisashi was in love, he wanted to rip it to shreds. Just as he was closing in for the shot, he trips on a wire and hurts himself. Hisashi volunteers to take him to the nurses office. The nurse diagnoses him with a mild concussion. Mao is angry with himself for not being able to concentrate on the most important shot. When Hisashi comes to check up on his, it is obvious Mao is mad. Hisashi confesses that Mao was so calm about the scene that he is happy he screwed up because it meant he was thinking about them. Hisashi brings out his camera phone remembering Mao said he couldn’t like when being filmed. Hisashi tells Mao to talk to him and tell him how he feels.

Mao admits that he likes Hisashi and that it has brought out feelings that make him a bad person. He wants Hisashi all to himself and doesn’t want him to look at anyone but him. He admits that when he thinks of Hisashi’s ex-lover, he gets jealous. Hisashi admits that he feels the same way about Mao.

That night, after his shower, Hisashi tells Mao he is going to break his promise and go to him. There, they make love for the first time. Afterwards, Mao wants to know more about Hisashi. They talk about the future afterwards and Mao admits that he wants a future with Hisashi.

The next morning, they’re running late. Mao turns the camera on and catches their kiss before going to school. At the end of class, they resume filming. It’s time to do the scene, except this time, both are ready. In a tender moment, Mao begins to cry thinking about how much he likes Hisashi.

THOUGHTS

Honesty is the best policy. I am glad that Hisashi put Mao on camera to tell him the truth. It wasn’t something you could just conveniently bottle up. You have to be honest with your feelings toward someone. I can’t say that I am shocked they immediately slept together. Mao never hit me as a prude, and well, we know that Hisashi was already sexually active with his ex-lover. I think they make a cute couple. I wish them the best!
