CHAPTER ONE: BEGINNING

Yuki is headed down the stairs on her way home. That’s when Megu-nee, the club advisor and teacher, calls out to Yuki and reminds her that she should be going to her club. Yuki turns around and heads to the School Living Club. Waiting is Kurumi with a shovel. Yuki asks where the president, Rii, is. Apparently, Rii is up on the roofing helping the gardening club. Kurumi tattles on Yuki that she almost left to go home. Rii reminds her of the rules of the School Living Club. Yuki and Kurumi play around and Yuki gets wet. Rii tells Yuki to go change. Kurumi asks Rii if that is a good idea to let her go by herself. Meanwhile, Yuki thinks about how much she likes school. She goes to the classroom and says hello to a classmate. However, there is no one there. Instead, it’s an empty, dilapidated room. She continues to talk to classmates that aren’t there. Yuki notices the window is open and exclaims it’s cold. She goes to close the window, but all of the windows are shattered and broken. Outside, zombies are roaming but it is apparent that Yuki is traumatized and not living in reality.

Chapter Two: Memories
It’s morning and the girls are waking up. It’s breakfast time and they’re having curry. Rii has to remind the girls of Rule No. 2. Since they use the school, they have to repay the debt. Therefore, the work they do isn’t odd jobs. Kurumi leaves with her shovel to do morning rounds. She checks all of their barriers. As she looks over one, there is a zombie. She jumps over the barricade and beheads the zombie. Yuki is in “class.” Kurumi goes to the roof to clean off her shovel. There, Rii, reminds her that she shouldn’t do dangerous things by herself. They look over the edge and see the undead baseball team going through the motions. That night, Kurumi is having a nightmare. She is recalling one of her classmates attacking her and killing him.

Chapter Three: Next Year
While Rii and Kurumi discuss the low supply situation, Yuki bursts in and declares they should do a test of courage. Megu-nee meets the group before the test of courage. During the test of courage, they have to bring something back from the school store and school library to prove that they were there. Yuki is excited in the school shop grabbing a bunch of snacks. After they’re done in the school store, they head to the library. Yuki wants to turn the lights on, but they remind her that wouldn’t be a test of courage. Rii is grabbing textbooks for Yuki. Yuki runs off. As she is looking at book, Megu-nee shows up. Megu-nee tells her she shouldn’t run. That’s when a zombie gets their attention.

Megu-nee tells Yuki to stay put. Yuki is scared and cowers in the corner. The other girls find Yuki. Megu-nee peers from around the corner and tells Yuki that she took care of the student that stayed behind.

Chapter Four: Teacher
Megu-nee is sitting in an empty classroom. She writes what she calls her will. In the first page, she admits she committed a sin and is the reason Yuki’s time has stopped.

It starts raining and the girls rush to get the laundry. Because they run on solar power, they turn the electricity off to conserve energy. Yuki decides they should camp. Megu-nee comes and checks in on the girls to make sure they’re going to sleep. Meanwhile, we realize that something isn’t quite right about Megu-nee.

Chapter Five: Illusion
Yuki wakes in the middle of the night from a dream. She recalls Megu-nee comforting her and stating that Rii and Megu-nee decided to start a club. Yuki decides she needs to go to the bathroom and Kurumi goes with her. It’s the middle of the night and a zombie has managed to get into the halls. Yuki immediately states it is a delinquent. Kurumi gets Yuki into the bathroom and tells her she’s going to get someone. She remembers Megu-nee telling her the same thing. Not to worry. She’ll be right back. Kurumi realizes that all of the baseball team members were returning to get “out of the rain.” She quickly starts to dispatch what she can.

Rii makes an announcement drawing the rest of the zombies to the second floor. They go get Yuki, but she is having a crisis. She is beginning to remember what happened to Megu-nee.

Chapter 6: Letter
Yuki continues to have dreams about Megu-nee. The other girls finally wake Yuki up and she’s hungry. Rii makes udon and tells Kurumi that they’re running low on provisions. Yuki states she is going to ask Megu-nee if they can go outside to get provisions. As she is gone, Kurumi asks Rii what they do if Yuki comes back with a yes. When Yuki comes back, she states that they have to write letters. So, the girls write letters. Yuki finds her balloons that she got from the school store and Kurumi goes to the science room to get helium. They tie their letters up and send them off on the balloons.

THOUGHTS

What a roller coaster! This manga is quite dark. The addition of Yuki’s mental trauma has really brought forward some fantastic situations already. I am still on the fence on whether Megu-nee is real or not. Is it is figment of Yuki’s imagination? We see that Megu-nee wrote a “will” in the beginning of chapter four, so we know, at one point, Megu-nee was real. Did Megu-nee writ this before the violence broke out? There are a lot of questions regarding Megu-nee. Looking forward to finding out more about Megu-nee.
