Episode 6: Kikuchihara Jin’s First Love
Kikuchihara definitely has a crush on Ichikawa. However, he doesn’t want any of his third-year film crew to find out. That evening, Ichikawa is anxiously awaiting Kikuchihara’s return. He has more BL manga to show him. Kikuchihara reads a line from the manga and makes Ichikawa blush. Kikuchihara commences the romantic teasing. He calls Ichikawa cute and lists all the things he wouldn’t have known had they not ended up living together. Ichikawa covers himself in a blanket with embarrassment.

The next day, Ichikawa is fully concentrating on his film work. He doesn’t even realize that Kikuchihara has returned. As Kikuchihara sits down, a third-year member knocks at the door. He wants to quit the club because he has to focus on entrance exams. Kikuchihara tries to convince him to stick around, but the third-year loses his patience and claims everything they’re doing won’t get them into college. Ichikawa has heard enough and confronts the third-year berating him. Kikuchihara yells at Ichikawa and then apologizes telling the third-year to return to his room before roll call. During their conversation, Kikuchihara admits that he will not continue filmmaking in college. Ichikawa tries to interject, but Kikuchihara stops him and reminds him no film talk in the room. Then, he confesses.

The next night, Ichikawa realizes that he needs to properly apologize to Kikuchihara for tearing him down when his film crew member tried to quit. However, when he gets to the room, Kikuchihara is waiting for him and requests the next volumes of the manga he was reading. It is then that Kikuchihara lays on the flirting thick and makes his intentions clear.

Inaba shows up Ichikawa’s shoot and tells him to lay off Kikuchihara. Ichikawa goes on a rant about how only directors know how other directors feel. That night in their room, Ichikawa tries to talk to Kikuchihara about Inaba. Kikuchihara won’t look at him and keeps his back to him, so Ichikawa kicks him in the back repeatedly. However, things don’t go the way Ichikawa thinks they would. When Kikuchihara turns around, he tells Ichikawa that he is turning him on. One thing leads to another and Kikuchihara kisses Ichikawa. Before anything can proceed further, there is a knock at the door.

THOUGHTS
It’s hard to imagine Ichikawa with someone like Kikuchihara. They are totally opposites. I can relate to Ichikawa, though. Sometimes, you are so into something, that it is hard to relate to others. Ichikawa’s outbursts come off as childish and selfish. However, I can also see his outbursts being passionate. Sometimes, it is hard to capture the right tone when you’re a passionate person. Maybe that is what Kikuchihara sees in the young Ichikawa.
