Episode 6: The Price of Honor

The sound of a gunshot rings. Noel shoots right above Miguel’s head. Noel is disappointed in Koga. After all, he is strong enough to kill Miguel and be free.

Noel finally shows up at the café where Alma is waiting. A girl named Lycia is there. They talk about the new drug making its rounds. He tells Lycia to be careful and to tell her party. Lycia is taken by surprise as it is very unlike Noel to care about others. Lycia takes her leave, but not before declaring her friendship with Alma and inviting her to tea at another time. Alma then declares that they’re now BFFs.

Miguel gets caught by the worst possible person. Albert Gambino. Gambino decides that he is going to process Miguel and Koga into sausages, stuff their skins into stuffed toys, and send them back to the d’Alemberts, the family that Miguel crossed.

Before anything else could happen, the Mayor of Mintz Village shows up. He weaves a story about having the money ready and Noel stealing all of it. He lies and tells Gambino that Noel called the Gambino family weak. The Mayor suggests that Gambino should reclaim his family’s honor and hunt Noel. Gambino agrees but not before he receives payment from the Mayor.

Gambino turns to Koga and orders him to cut off the Mayor’s right arm with the Mayor’s crutch. The Mayor points to the crutch and tells Koga there is no way he could do it, but in a split second, the Mayor loses his right arm. As Gambino laughs, he states he likes Koga. Miguel offers up Koga and he is now Gambino’s slave.

As Koga dresses, he recalls his past. His parents were a wealthy merchant and a beautiful woman. All they longed for was a child. However, as they are praying at a shrine, they are attacked. They rape his wife and she becomes pregnant by her rapist. Her mental state declines rapidly and her husband doesn’t recognize Koga as his son.

That night, Koga’s mother kills herself. From that point on, his father becomes a drunk and abuses Koga. He was a cursed child that no one wanted. One day, he woke up on a boat and realized he was sold into slavery. This is where he meets Miguel. He is quickly thrown into the ring to fight for his life. For the first time, he received praise for winning.

It’s the middle of the night, and Noel is called to a meeting spot to meet Loki. Loki tells Noel that the Gambino family is after his life. As they are talking about the fact that Albert Gambino is a bastard, Noel hears the rustling of armor. Noel deduces that Loki sold Noel out. Noel pulls out his gun to shoot Loki. However, Loki does not budge. Loki realizes that by selling Noel out, he sold himself out.

Instead of killing Loki, Noel lets him go. Noel declares that Loki doesn’t have to run and hide. Noel is going to bring down the Gambino family. Noel tells Loki to go away, he’s in the middle of the fight. Noel sips on a potion awaiting the fight. The person who arrives is Koga. Koga is shocked that his mark is Noel. He admits that he doesn’t want to fight Noel, however, he will not disobey Gambino’s orders. So, instead, he reveals his hand.

They begin their fight. Noel shoots a fire bullet, however, Koga is able to come out unscathed. Noel goes for the “family jewels” and Koga yells at Noel for being a cheat. Noel responds that anything goes since they are fighting for their lives. Noel throws a flash bomb and attacks, but Koga uses a special skill to counteract it. Koga has the upper hand. As Noel falls, he uses his Stun Howl command, but it does not work.

Thoughts

Again, I am taken in by Alma. She made her first friend and declared that they’re BFFs. That was really cute. It’s hard to imagine behind that murderous intent lies a girl who just wants to reclaim everything she missed out on.

The Mayor received what he deserved. How dare he sell Noel out like that. I’m not surprised, but how dare he!

I was surprised that Noel let Loki go. After all, Noel’s motto is to pay back those in kind. However, Loki plays a huge part in Noel’s intel needs. I suppose those needs outweigh taking Loki’s life.

How is Noel going to come out of this fight with Koga? Will continue to monitor.
