EPISODE 1: I Was Summoned by Accident
The episode begins with the typical summoning montage. The protagonist is engulfed in a warm light and ends up before the goddess, Lady Nolyn, who explains that he was mistakenly summoned to Mildgard by a summoning spell meant for another group of people. In the process, our protagonist is left without a body and is nothing more than a wisp. Lady Nolyn explains the nation of Mildgard used the summoning spell recklessly and could have destroyed Mildgard.

Lady Nolyn explains she intervened in enough time to keep that from happening. The other summoned people made it safely to the Holy Sidonia Empire. Our protagonist inquires whether he would be sent to Holy Sidonia to live out his life, but Lady Nolyn immediately tells our protagonist that Holy Sidonia is a troublesome place. Instead, she is going to send him to a different nation with her full support and blessing. We learn the name of our protagonist, Takumi Iruma who will be reincarnated as a 17 year old human. Lady Nolyn further explains the type of jobs available to him when he reincarnates.

After her very brief explanation, she sends our protagonist off to the continent of Asgard. Our protagonist lands in Asgard. Takumi’s first act of business after he lands is to appraise what he has. He learns that he can use an assortment of magic, alchemy, and blacksmithing.

After checking his status, Takumi tests out the spells he has been given. He sets off to find a village. On his way to find a village, he comes across some treant wood. Using magic, he fashions the wood into handle for a spear. He uses his skills to discover all of the herbs in the area. He gets carried away and picks too much in his excitement. He remembers that he has an item box with unlimited storage from Lady Nolyn and thanks her. Before he can continue, he hears a shriek. A little girl runs behind Takumi. Chasing her is a horned rabbit. Using his spear, he dispatches the rabbit. However, this increases his job as a warrior which is definitely not what he wants. He wants to live a peaceful life as an artisan. The little girl thanks him and tells him she is from Bord Village. He asks to follow her to the village.
Back in the Holy Sidonia Empire, the other summoned group arrives. The atmosphere is dark and mysterious. A woman in a cape approaches two males and one female. She apologizes for the summoning and calls them heroes. They are there to save their world. She introduces herself as the First Empress of the Holy Sidonia Empire, Elizabeth. The female is suddenly hit by her blessing from Lady Nolyn called Revelation. From this skill, she surmises that Elizabeth is dangerous and not to be trusted.

Back at Bord Village, Takumi is introduced to the little girl’s family. He asks for permission to stay in the village. They explain their village doesn’t have an inn, so they could build him a house. Takumi uses earth magic to level out the ground and the townsfolk are amazed. By the end of the day, he has his own little abode. Unfortunately, his use of his skills have opened up warrior and mage as his job titles.

Takumi discovers he CAN change his jobs and switches to alchemist and blacksmith. Using alchemy, he starts working on changing various metals into ingots. However, he overdoes it and passes out. Molly’s mother lectures Takumi to take better care of himself. Using the ingots, he makes tools and utensils.
While happy with his progress, his real goal is to be an alchemist, so he starts practicing potion making, however, his potions don’t quite look like the ones given to him by Molly’s father. Furthering his magic, Takumi poisons himself by eating dangerous herbs and then curing himself with light magic. He does this over and over to build his resistances.

As he is recovering, a huge boar attacks him. He stabs his spear at the boar doing no damage. Then none of his magic worked. As he steps back, an injured poisonous spider is behind him. Just when he thinks he is going to be ambushed from behind, the spider saves his life by jumping on the face of the boar. The boar charges at Takumi again. With no other choice, he activates his intuition and uses his alchemy skill to decompose the boar. His gamble works out. Takumi goes to the spider and thanks him. He heals the spider and begins to walk away. As he is walking away, the option to tame the spider appears.

Takumi decides to enter a pact with the spider. He names the spider Maple. The spider then evolves. After taming the spider, he returns to the village with the boar. The townsfolk are amazed that he lived as well as amazed he tamed a spider. Apparently, taming insects isn’t possible. The townsfolk make a feast of the boar. While eating together, the villagers talk about how Takumi has brought life to the village, but recognizes that he won’t stay forever.
The goddess watches over Takumi very happy with his progress. Another goddess approaches and asks Lady Nolyn what she is hoping from him. We learn that she sent him a whole year into the past before the summoning. Lady Nolyn states there is no particular reason.
THOUGHTS
I think this show has some potential. While it has the beginnings of a typical isekai, there is already foreshadowing of a bigger plot to come. That has piqued my interest. Who is Elizabeth and why does the female she summoned feel like Elizabeth can’t be trusted? Why did Lady Nolyn send Takumi back a year before the summoning? Not only did she grant him an extraordinary body (capable of martial arts and maneuverability), she also granted him her blessing. What is Lady Nolyn’s true motivation? We know that using the summoning spell was forbidden and that Lady Nolyn went through great lengths to intervene. Does that mean the Holy Sidonia Empire is up to nefarious deeds? Will Takumi play a part in the demise of Holy Sidonia’s ulterior motives?
Let’s talk about Takumi. So far, I don’t see anything that separates him from the stereotypical overpowered male protagonist. However, he is likeable and the excitement created when he does his tradeskills is endearing. Plus, he has a cute spider as a pet.
Will continue to monitor.
