Me and my husband were blessed to be able to take a cruise last week. I wish I could report that it was uneventful, but unfortunately, that wouldn’t be the truth.

We left for Florida on Saturday, the 18th. It was a long day of travel. We stayed at a quaint La Quinta Inn on Cocoa Beach. We had dinner at the pier. I had my first (and only) alcoholic beverage for the trip. I forgot what it was called, but it had pineapple juice and rum. Two of my favorite things. That evening, I felt wonderful.

On the morning of the 19th, we headed to Port Canaveral where Wonder of the Seas awaited our arrival. We were super excited. By this time, I felt a little tickle in my throat, but I chalked it up to the change of weather/allergens from Texas to Florida. We had a wonderful opening day to our cruise.

On the morning of the 20th, I was feeling run down. I figured it was coming off the initial high of vacation. We went to trivia and did a few things around the ship. I got to hide my ducks!

On the morning of the 21st, a cough had developed. It was very slight. So slight, I still suspected allergies or an adjustment period to the weather. Post-nasal drip, if you will. We continued on our day having fun at the adult-only pools and whirlpools.

On the morning of the 22nd, it was our stop in St. Maarten. I felt like a truck hit me. I was still in denial that I was sick. We went to port and I made it on the water taxi to the shopping area. We didn’t make it through the entire area. I was having trouble breathing and it was then a fever developed. We returned to the ship and sequestered me to the cabin. Casey was a trooper. He made sure I stayed hydrated, made sure I took medicine, and kept me fed.

Then, on the 23rd, my wingman caught the chest cold I had. I started feeling better, so I pulled nurse duty and paid back the favor. I made sure he stayed hydrated and fed. We both decided the responsible thing to do was to stay in our cabin and wait until our fevers subsided. This means we did not leave the ship for St. Thomas. Casey braved the elements and got footage first thing in the morning before the masses woke up.

The 24th was a sea day. At this point, we both holed up in the room praying for a quick recovery. The 25th was the last day at port, and we paid for entrance to the adult-only area. We were looking forward to the private island more than anything. That’s when I read an article that Icon of the Seas had to skip Perfect Day at CoCo Cay because of the wind. Great.

We woke up Saturday morning fever free! The wait began. Wind was still pretty strong and we were worried that our port day would get cancelled. Thankfully, it didn’t! We suited up and enjoyed our day at CoCo Cay.

It wasn’t the perfect vacation, but it was still restful in a way. We did get to spend some time at the pool and hot tub as well as attend a few events. Casey even won me some rope jewelry and a bottle of champagne.

Wonder of the Seas is a beautiful ship. If you have the means, I recommend sailing on her at least once.

If you would like to see more of our trip, please feel free to watch my YouTube video. Thanks!

  2. Awe, sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well during your trip. Colds and flues like sneaking up on us at the worst of times! But at least you got to see a beautiful ship and enjoy the end of your vacay. And 2 thumbs up for thinking of your fellow travelers and staying put while you were feeling sniffly! That was very kind of you. Illnesses can spread through a ship like wildfire, and your thoughtfulness prevented that.
