Season 2, Ep. 1: Another Kudo Residence

The episode opens up with our protagonist, Miyo, having a dream. She dreams about her past and then appears her fiancé, Lord Kudo. In a sad voice, he apologizes to her and then tells her that he loves her. She is startled awake. During breakfast, Miyo brings up the dream to her cousin, Usuba Arata. She is afraid her dream-sight ability is taking over her dreams. Arata comforts her and tells her that isn’t the case. We learn that Miyo is the only person that possesses the Dream-Sight Ability.

Fast forward to later in the day, Miyo is shopping with her future sister-in-law with Lord Kudo a few steps behind. As Lord Kudo and his sister get into an argument, Miyo suddenly tenses up. She senses someone is watching her.

As she tries not to panic, someone touches her shoulder. When she turns around, a man asks her if she’s Saimori Miyo. He mentions that he couldn’t wait for the wedding to meet her. He reminds Miyo of someone, but she can’t quite put her finger on it. Pulling away from their argument, Lord Kudo and his sister acknowledge the man as their father.

Annoyed by his presence, Lord Kudo asks his father why he is in the Imperial Capital. Lord Kudo’s father extends an invitation to Miyo and Lord Kudo to visit the villa where he stays with his wife. At tea, Lord Kudo’s father again invites them to the villa, but Lord Kudo immediately declines. Lord Kudo’s father asks him to allow him to finish telling him of the other reason he is inviting Lord Kudo. He slides a piece of paper to Lord Kudo. Upon reading it, Lord Kudo is apprised of grotesquerie sightings in the area around the Kudo Villa. Lord Kudo suddenly receives a flying paper crane from the Prince asking him to investigate.

Circumstances have changed and Lord Kudo and Miyo accept the invitation to the Kudo Villa.

Lord Kudo and Miyo head to the train station. She’s nervous. She never left the house when she lived with the Saimoris and didn’t attend school. She is afraid that she wouldn’t be accepted. Meanwhile, Lord Kudo reflects on his meeting about the possible demons and an outsider roaming the area.

When they arrive at the train station, they are greeted by Lord Kudo’s family butler, Sasaki. Upon arrival at the villa, Miyo and Lord Kudo are greeted by all the staff and his father. Lord Kudo’s mother is not present. His father beckons her and she enters the room. There is an immediate tension between mother and son. Then, without a beat, the mother begins to insult Miyo.

However, Lord Kudo is having none of it.

After apologizing to Miyo for the horrible reception, he proposes a walk after a short rest. They explore the area together. They end up at a local shop where Miyo falls in love with a cute figurine and Lord Kudo tells her she can buy as many as she wants. Meanwhile, he tells the shopkeeper to send a barrel of sake to the Kudo villa. The shopkeeper tells Lord Kuro about the rumors of demons and a suspicious person.

Back at the villa, they’re taken to their room. However, it only has one bed. Embarrassed, but very cutely, Miyo runs out of the room explaining that she will have them prepare another room for her.

Back in the Imperial Capital, the Prince has called Arata for a sudden meeting. There she inquires about the Usuba family and how the new rules are taking effect. Arata makes it clear the family intends to build a better future. However, the Prince warns Arata that the path is not stabilized. The Prince hints that Miyo’s Dream-Sight ability will be needed and that the future rests upon her.

THOUGHTS

Not a bad episode. It is definitely easing its way back into the rhythm of the paranormal world they live in.

I am not shocked that Lord Kudo’s mother is a complete tool. After all, Lord Kudo gave Miyo a cold reception when she arrived at his home in S1. His mother’s reception was very similar. I loved Lord Kudo’s protective nature. He even threatens his mother.

Overall, the episode was just okay. I understand that all opening episodes can’t be absolute bangers. I do hope that the story progresses a little faster in the second episode.
