Daily writing prompt
Are there any activities or hobbies you’ve outgrown or lost interest in over time?

I actually have quite a few. That is why I call this blog The Filthy Casual. It has a double meaning for me. It’s a gaming term for someone that casually plays a hardcore game. Usually a MMORPG. It also means, for me, someone that casually burns through hobbies. That person is me. I’ve never taken hobbies too seriously. In fact, the only “hobby” that has really stuck is watching anime.

Watching football. I used to be an avid football fan. I was a big Dallas Cowboys and the University of Texas Longhorns fan. I never missed a game. However, over the years, I lost interest and became a hockey fan.

Quilting. Believe it or not, I used to love to quilt. I wasn’t particularly good at it, but I enjoyed it a lot. Then, I got frozen shoulder and had to quit. During my recovery, I lost interest.

Calligraphy. I really, really wanted to learn how to write using calligraphy. I took a class, bought all the supplies, and then quit suddenly. I lost interest. Probably because I sucked at it LOL.

What hobbies have you grown out of or quit?

  1. Hmm, I never really quit hobbies, I just put them on hold for a while. Sometimes for quite a while, even years. I’ve learned to play the Irish tin pipe, the Irish lap harp, and the piano, but I don’t play any instrument currently. I was really into drawing on my tablet last year, but I haven’t drawn anything in months. In the past I was into calligraphy, poetry, and painting, but I don’t do any of that right now. But I don’t really consider that quitting, because I’ve worked on those hobbies and then stepped away from them many times, and I’m sure I will pick them up again and work on them some time in the future. I’m currently working on crochetting a hapi kimono, writing my blog, watching anime, re-reading a fantasy novel series, and novel writing. Oh, and I recently took up manicures at home, something I haven’t done since I was in middle school. I’m surprised, it’s actually a lot more fun than I remember!
