After our protagonist, Philia, is sold to Parnacorta, things begin to change for Philia. She has unwavering support from the kingdom or Parnacorta. They are welcoming and treat her with respect, things she is not used to. Her former kingdom treated her with disdain and took her excellence for granted.

In addition, Parnacorta has gifted her excellent servants in Leonardo and Lena, her butler and maid. However, they are not your regular butler and maid. Both are trained assassins ready to protect the Saint.

Most importantly, Prince Osvalt has committed himself to making sure she falls in love with the kingdom of Parnacorta.

Almost immediately, those around her sense her limited emotional growth. They remind her that she has the help of those around her and she not need to rely only on herself. Philia slowly learns to lean on those around her when things get challenging.

Meanwhile, in Philia’s former kingdom, things are getting worse. The monster attacks are getting stronger and her sister Mia is having trouble keeping up. Philia’s teacher and former Saint, Hildegarde, comes out of retirement to help Mia.

Things are looking pretty grim for Girtonia. Quickly after her sister’s disappearance, Mia discovers that Prince Julius sold her sister. She decides that she is going to get engaged to Julius and get revenge on everyone that took her sister away from her. Mia begins to solicit the help of the rightful first prince, Fernand. He is a shut-in and sickly and has lost all confidence in himself. However, Mia does not give up on him. Soon, Fernand is pushing himself to help her cause and take back the kingdom from Prince Julius.

Prince Julius is becoming bolder. He plots to kill his father and the first Prince Fernand to take the kingdom for himself. However, Mia and Fernand gets insider information and is able to stop his scheming. In retaliation, Prince Julius escapes from captivity and is able to make it to a sealed-away ring that promises to give him great power. As he puts on the ring, he releases the demon Asmodeus.

We learn that Asmodeus believes Philia is the reincarnated soul of the Saint he fell in love with, Fiana. Now that Asmodeus is occupying Julius body, he has the strength to try to make Philia submit her soul to him so that he can have Fiana back. With the help of exorcists Ezra and Mammon, Prince Osvalt, Mia, and Hildegarde, Philia tries to defeat Asmodeus, but fails. In the process, it is revealed that Hildegarde is not only Philia’s teacher, but also her birth mother.

Philia submits to Asmodeus and he takes her to Limbo. There, Asmodeus has a doll of Fiana and wants to start the process of transferring Philia’s soul to the doll. However, Philia has other plans and is able to foil his attempt. Just as Asmodeus is about to kill Philia, Prince Osvalt, Ezra, and Mammon show up. As promised, Prince Osvalt protects Philia.

However, it seems it is all for naught. Asmodeus is too strong. With Philia out of magic, she pleads to save those she loves. The soul of Fiana hears her plea and lends her magic to Philia. It is with that magic that Philia is able to heal her comrades and defeat Asmodeus.

Things are returning to normal in Girtonia. Philia is able to reconnect with Hildegarde and learn more about her father. Philia and Prince Osvalt return to Parnacorta. There, they have a date where Prince Osvalt confesses his love and, with a smile, the Saint returns his feelings.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed this series. It had some dark parts. Philia is obviously the product of severe emotional trauma and abuse. Her parents only wanted her for her gifts and did not love her at all. They doted on her younger sister. We later learn that is because Mia is their birth daughter, and Philia is not. They actually stole Philia from Hildegarde.

But, then. There was light. Parnacorta was Philia’s saving grace. It helped heal some wounds and teach her to rely on others. The Saint that never smiled finally learned to find happiness.

I thought there was the right amount of romance. There were glimpses, but nothing overt. I enjoyed that. The series mainly stayed focused on the building story. It was a nice highlight and not the focus.

I would definitely recommend this series if you’re into fantasy with a little fluff.

One response to “Anime End of Season: The Too-Perfect Saint”

  1. Yeah, I really enjoyed this series! I particularly liked that the little sister that everyone doted on wasn’t an evil, back stabbing, brat (something that is very common in these kind of stories) and was actually a really sweet person that cared about her older sister. The romance was nice, but I liked the relationship between the sister the most.
