EPISODE 2: Two Yuris?! Drama at Yu-topia

Victor is walking across a bridge as it snows. His coach is following him telling him if he leaves the sport now, he won’t be able to come back. Victor is not swayed and boards a plane to Japan.

Rushing into the onsen, Minako comes to see if the rumors were true. There in the onsen common area was Victor Nikiforov asleep. Minako tells Yuri that the news says Victor is taking a season off to figure out his next steps. When Victor saw the video of Yuri, he was inspired and decided to be Yuri’s coach.

Victor wakes up hungry and asks Yuri what his favorite food is. Yuri’s mom brings out pork katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) and Victor is in heaven. Minako tells Victor that Yuri gains weight easily and he was only allowed to eat it when he won competitions. Victor asks if Yuri has been eating the katsudon. Yuri emphatically tells him yes. Victor asks him why since he hasn’t been winning anything.

Victor addresses his weight and tells Yuri that lessons would be pointless if he doesn’t lose weight and get back into shape. They move Victor into an unused banquet room. There, Victor seductively starts asking Yuri question including whether there is a girl that he likes.

Yuri begins to start exercising in earnest with the help of the Nishigoris (Yuko’s family) and Minako (his former ballet teacher). While training, Victor asks Yuri again if he has a girlfriend. Yuri tells him no, but then Victor gets excited and wants to talk about himself and his ex-girlfriends. It is obvious that Yuri is uncomfortable. To break the silence, Victor asks what the castle is. Yuri tells him its a ninja house. Victor takes a selfie with it and that is how a young Yuri Plisetsky figures out where Victor is.

A week later, Yuri Plisetsky arrives in Japan with one goal. To get Victor back on a plane to Russia. Victor made a promise to Yuri Plisetsky that he would choreograph his programs if he won Junior Worlds without quad jumps.

Yuri Plisetsky arrives at Ice Castle to make Victor come back to Russia. But, instead Victor makes a deal. He will choreograph a program for each Yuri and whoever can surprise the audience more will win. Yuri Plisetsky then adds that Victor will have to do whatever the winner wants.

Back at the onsen, Yuri Plisetsky is dubbed “Yurio” to keep from getting confused.

Yuri’s sister asks for help to clear out the storage room in Victor’s room, however, Yuri keeps thinking about how close Yurio and Victor are. It causes him to have an anxiety attack. He immediately dresses in his sports gear and runs to Ice Castle. When Victor asks where Yuri’s at, Mari tells Victor that when Yuri gets anxious he either goes to Minako’s ballet studio or to Ice Castle. Watching Yuri skate alone, Victor learns a lot about Yuri from Yuko and her husband.

Victor debuts the music for the programs and assigns Yurio the more innocent agape piece and Yuri the eros piece. He explains they have to do the opposite of what’s expected. Yurio declares that if he wins, Victor has to go back to Russia and become his coach. When Victor asks what Yuri wants, he states he wants to keep eating katsudon with Victor and to keep winning.

THOUGHTS

Victor can be brutal! I love it! He calls Yuri out on the katsudon. Then calls him a little piggy. Brutal!

Victor can also be an enticing flirt! Holy smokes did it catch me off guard when he slithered up to Yuri and started asking Yuri questions including whether he liked someone. Poor Yuri was caught and tangled inside Victor’s web of seduction. LOL!

Yurio is a little over the top for my liking, but it does a great job of showing how different the two skaters are. Yurio is confident and Yuri isn’t. How will they affect each other? Will Yurio’s confidence rub off on Yuri? Will Yuri’s calm demeanor rub off on Yurio?
