Episode 5 Recap: Yuri competes at the regional competition. While his skating is not perfect, he manages to beat his personal best. Yuri also learns that other skaters look up to him adding to the fact that he isn’t just a dime-a-dozen figure skater. When Yuri is at a press conference, he explains his theme of love proclaiming Victor is the first person he has ever wanted to hold onto.

Episode 6 – China’s On! The Grand Prix Series Opening Event!! The Cup of China Short Program

Victor and Yuri are off to Beijing for The Cup of China. When Victor approaches Yakov to go eat hot pot with them, he gets scolded for playing pretend coach. At the hot pot restaurant, Victor has too much to drink.

It’s the beginning of the competition, and the first to skate is Yuri’s old rinkmate, Phichit from Thailand. He needs to place second to earn a slot at the Grand Prix finals.

Phichit skates a near-perfect program grabbing a personal best. Next up is China’s Guang-hong Ji.

It’s time for Yuri to skate. Victor tells Yuri that it is time for him to skate with his own charm. Yuri responds:

Yuri skates a flawless program scoring another personal best. All of the skaters are amazed at Yuri’s transformation, but Celestino reminds Phichit that Yuri is not used to being the skater to beat.

After Yuri’s skate, Russian skater Georgi Popovich. His theme for the year is “heartbreak”. Georgi’s program places him in second behind Yuri.

Following Georgi is Leo de la Iglesia from the United States. His program puts him in third place. The final skater is Christophe Giacometti. He skates a seductive program.

It’s the end of the short program and Yuri holds on to first place.
