A GENTLE NOBLE’S VACATION RECOMMENDATION
Episode 1: A Vacation Recommendation
Genre: Isekai, Slice of Life
Ever look at a picture and get a gut feeling? Well, when I saw the image for A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation, I sensed BL. I had no reason to think that, but I just did. I decided to give it a try to see if my radar was correct.
We open with our violet-eyed protagonist wandering the streets of a town. He has no idea where he is at. The citizens in the street gawk at him wondering what a noble is doing wandering around. He realizes that he needs money, so he finds a store and gets his sword appraised.

The shopkeeper is amazed at the quality and offers him 200 gold, but our protagonist has no where to store it. The shopkeeper sells him a magical bag to keep his money in. Our protagonist removes his jacket and continues to investigate his surroundings. He decides that he needs to find a companion. As he is about to enter a dangerous part of town, a person stops him and warns him of the danger.

As the stranger walks away, our protagonist flings a coin toward the stranger’s direction. The stranger immediately turns around and catches it. Our protagonist introduces himself as Lizel and hands the stranger another gold coin to speak with him.
The stranger leads him to a tavern where they order drinks. The stranger gets to the point and asks Lizel what he wants to know. Lizel has other plans. He asks the stranger to introduce himself. We learn the stranger is named Gil. Solo adventurer. B-rank.

Gil does his best to discern Lizel’s intentions. They cut to the chase and exchange information. Rather than allowing Gil to leave after obtaining the information he was seeking, Lizel makes a request. Sipping his wine, Gil asks Lizel if he wants him to show him around, be his bodyguard or adventuring companion. To which, Lizel replies all three.
Gil shows Lizel to the inn and gets him a room next to him. It is in that room where Lizel trusts Gil with his secret. He was isekai’d from another nation. Gil believes him and asks him to continue. Lizel then divulges that he is a duke of the nation he is from and a chancellor who worked at the royal palace. Lizel decides he is going to approach this turn of events as a vacation.

The next morning, Lizel knocks on Gil’s door and declares he wants to become an adventurer. Gil mentions they have to get Lizel some new clothes because he stands out too much.
At the guild, the receptionist refuses to register Lizel. He assumes that Lizel is a noble and states that guild rules do not allow nobles to register as adventurers. We learn that Gil has a nickname. Blade.

They convince Stud, the guild receptionist, that Lizel is not a noble. Stud issues Lizel an adventurer’s card which requires Lizel to prick his finger on a device. When complete, Lizel places his finger toward his mouth, but Gil immediately stops him.

Stud provides Lizel a stack of books to read while he is at the guild. Lizel wants to purchase them so he could take them back to his room, but Stud mentions they cannot leave the guild. Instead, Stud draws Lizel a map to a shop. As Lizel and Gil get up to leave, Lizel pats Stud’s head while the other adventurers gasp.

Three days later, Lizel is surrounded by books as he ingests as much knowledge about the world as he can. Gil returns from a job and enters Lizel’s room. Gil picks up a book and reads a line about a beautiful fish.

Flirtatiously, Lizel asks Gil if he thinks he’s beautiful. Gil responds he thinks he is an idiot.
They go back to the guild to finish Lizel’s registration and to accept his first job. However, another adventurer begins to stir the pot with Gil. In the past, Gil turned down the adventurer to group together and the adventurer is pissed off that Gil is now teamed up with Lizel. The adventurer throws out some more insults, but not before Lizel shows a bit of bite.

The adventurer attacks, but not before Gil takes action to defend Lizel. Even Stud was about to interfere with his ice magic. That evening, drinking some alcohol, Gil wonders why he moved instinctively.

THOUGHTS
After watching this episode, I went to do some research on whether this anime was a BL. According to sources, it is NOT a BL. However, it is very hard to deny the suggestiveness of the dialogue. So, I am going to say it is BL suggestive. In other words, let your imagination fly with the innuendo! I am not the only person that felt like there is enough innuendo.
BL aside, I’m interested to see how Lizel goes from noble to adventurer and how the relationship between him and Gil progresses.
Will continue to monitor.
