Sometimes, a show catches you by surprise and the next thing you know, you’re shedding tears. Here are three anime that made me ugly cry. Caution – there are spoilers.
Your Lie in April

This entire anime is utterly heartbreaking. From mental and physical abuse, to post traumatic stress syndrome, to the love story that binds everything together. In the end, the female protagonist passes away during a surgery while the male protagonist is competing at a piano competition. The scene is heartbreaking synced with beautiful piano music. I cried that entire scene knowing he would never see her again. It broke my heart.
Golden Time

What would it be like if the love of your life forgot you and the love you shared for each other? That’s what happens in Golden Time. Our male protagonist suffers from amnesia after falling from a bridge after high school graduation, but enters law school and continues with his life. He meets the female protagonist and they fall in love. However, the male protagonist’s memory starts to come back and replace the new memories. While performing at a festival, the transformation completes with him recognizing his parents while the female protagonist and his new friends are forgotten. I felt her despair and I definitely ugly cried when she realized he doesn’t remember their time together.
Demon Slayer

Probably the most emotional I have ever been at the death of an anime character. The death of Rengoku had me crying like a baby in the movie theater. After a glorious battle against an upper ranked demon, Rengoku’s body is broken and his death is imminent. He takes his last moments to mentor Tanjiro maintaining his cheerful spirit. Set your heart ablaze. Man, those words hit.
