My husband got bit by the cruise bug. Thanks to the awesomeness of our first cruise together to Alaska, my husband demanded we go on a second cruise. We booked a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise to St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Cococay on the Wonder of the Seas in January 2025. We’ve watched a lot of videos and determined that this was the next choice for us. We upgraded from a standard interior room to a room that overlooks the Promenade of the ship. That way, we can people-watch while sipping our morning coffee.
So, what does that mean for Japan? I really do want to go. But, just when we think we have enough money saved, the trip gets more expensive. It seems we can never meet the amount of funds it will take. The biggest issue is the flights. My husband is a big guy. He’s 6’5” and regular coach/economy seats won’t work for 15 hours. Therefore, we have to fly some form of business/first class. Tickets are roughly $4,200 each. Originally, when we started planning this trip before the pandemic, it would cost us $3,000 for both of us to fly business class. Same with hotel rooms. Pre-pandemic, the hotel I wanted to stay at was $250/night. Now, it is $400/night. The JRail pass was $200/person. Now it’s going to be $350/person. I hope prices will drop, but it is looking more and more like we’re going to be priced out of the trip.
One thing I have learned is that I need a long vacation. The seven-day cruise to Alaska really recharged my batteries. I’ve spent so much of my life too broke to go on vacation, so it is nice to finally be at a place in my life where I can afford to go on a cruise. I don’t want to wish what time I have on this Earth away, but I cannot wait until January 2025!
