If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that my one and only bucket list item is going to Japan. My husband and I had plans for 2020. I was ready to book plane tickets. I had hotels researched. I had a plan of action. Then, there were rumblings about a mysterious sickness circulating. My gut kept telling me not to book those plane tickets. I literally sat at the computer screen with the tickets ready to be purchased when I decided to wait. Then, the world shutdown. When things started getting back to normal, me and my husband were ready. Japan was not. While the rest of the world was going back to normal, Japan kept its borders closed to travelers. Tired of waiting, we booked an Alaskan cruise. Not more than a month after we booked that Alaskan cruise, Japan opened its borders. The cruise was a blast, though.

Fast forward to today. The cost of the trip has nearly tripled. That’s right. TRIPLED. To be fair, it isn’t just because of inflation. Originally, we were going to fly premium economy thinking it would be large enough for Casey. After all, he is 6’5″. When we had flown to Los Angeles for the BTS concert, we flew coach. Casey was having all sorts of issues because his legs were hitting the seat in front of him. He was so uncomfortable. Here we are in coach literally on top of each other.

Then, we flew first class to Seattle for the cruise and all was right with the world. I had room to lean over and he had room to actually hold the camera out to get a better shot of us. We both determined that we needed business class for our 15 hour flight to Tokyo.

I opened up a savings account. With today’s flight prices, we can expect a $12,000 plane ticket bill. Yep. $12,000. The plane tickets alone exceed the actual cost to stay in Tokyo for a week. My hope is to save enough by 2028.
MEGURO RIVER CHERRY BLOSSOMS

My plan is to hit Tokyo during sakura season. So, around late March/early April. One of the places that I want to see is the picturesque Meguro Canal. I want to experience its beauty first hand.
Do you have a life-long dream that you’re trying to reach? Or perhaps a trip you’d like to take that costs a small fortune? Would you rather compromise comfort for the 15 hour flight to save thousands of dollars? What’s your take?
