After a long wait, SLAY THE SPIRE finally arrived. My husband backed it on Kickstarter back in 2022. We have the collector’s edition, so we may have upgrades that the standard version does not.
The Basics
Number of Players: One (1) to Four (4) Players
Suggested Age: Twelve (12) and Older
Average Game Play: 30-150 minutes
Average Price: Unknown due to Kickstarter only
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is simple…if you’ve played the video game before. If you haven’t, then no blog can prepare you for the extensive nature of the game. There are a lot of moving parts in the board game version. If you want to learn to play, Becca Scott has a great video that explains the rules and how to play:
THOUGHTS
If you like the video game, you’ll love the board game. The deck-building is just as fun, if not more fun, than the video game.
The board game is very well thought out. The co-op is amazing. It makes the game quite engaging. A lot of strategy has to be thought out between you and your fellow players.
The game goes by pretty quickly. We took down Act I in about 30 minutes. The game also makes it easy to pause the game and pick it back up at another time.
The aesthetics are also amazing.

The only downside is the initial setup. Holy shit that takes a long time. See all those cards? They have card sleeves that you have to put on them. SO TEDIOUS. The upside is the setup shouldn’t take as long in future games.

I can’t wait for those of you who didn’t back it on Kickstarter to be able to get copies of your own!
