Does Army field exercises count as “camping?” We slept outside, sometimes in little trenches we dug ourselves with only the cover of leaves to keep us warm. Sometimes in tents. We did land navigation. We had little battle exercises. Lots of marching. Does that count as camping? Probably not.
I went camping once when I was part of the Girl Scouts. But, can you really call that camping? It was more like glamping. We stayed in bunkhouses and had beds. I’ve been on many fishing trips with my dad where he fished all night and I slept in the truck. We did own a tent when I was younger, but I don’t recall ever using it for camping. We would set it up in the backyard and play in it.
No, I don’t think I’ve ever TRULY been “camping.” I’m not 100% sure I would want to. As much as I wish I loved communing with nature, it’s not really in my personality. My time in the Army was enough of the wild outdoors.
