EPISODE 12: LOVE 12. THE PRETTY BOY VOWS?!

Ruka holds the necklace that he originally gave Mito to gauge the sweetness of her blood. It glows black indicating that Mito no longer has any love for Ruka. As he whispers to himself that he loves Mito, the necklace starts to glow.

At the church, Mito and Ren are preparing for their wedding. Ren promises to cherish her forever.

As Ren leaves to finish getting ready, Mito reflects. However, she has flashes of someone. Ruka walks in the room Mito is in. Ruka gives her the necklace, now red. When he mentions it is a “sang sucre,” Mito feels like she has heard that before. As Ruka explains what the red color means, he confesses his love for her.

After handing her the necklace, Mito begins to cry because she doesn’t remember who he is.

Ren’s mother walks Mito down the aisle. Ren’s father is happy because Ren will become the leader of the vampires. During their vows, Mito can’t bring herself to agree to the marriage. Ren notices the look on her face. She begins to cry and the blurred image in her head begins to clear and she realizes it is Ruka that she can’t forget. She confesses that she loves him and they engage in a kiss.

Ren realizes his defeat. Ruka apologizes for not telling her how he felt sooner. As he embraced her, she became a woman again. She immediately apologizes to Ruka for lying to him. He realizes that she is his destined partner.

Ren’s father threatens to erase all her memories. Ren stops him vowing to stop him from hurting his first love. Komori/Founder shows up. Ren’s father is upset and yells at Founder for not making him the next leader. Founder explains that the reason he chose Ruka is because he had the ability to find true love. Ruka figures out Founder knew about Mito the entire time. Mito realizes Founder is Komori.

Ruka and Mito return to the dorm. Mito is dressed as a boy again and tells Ruka no one can find out she’s a girl. That doesn’t stop Ruka from getting another kiss from her.

The next morning, Mito freaks out that they’re in the same bed. She attacks Ruka for being in her bed, but he points out it is his bed she crawled into. Komori shows up and urges them to be on time for school. Founder makes it clear to Ruka to be careful. He reminds Ruka that Mito could be put in danger.

Ruka wants to hold Mito’s hand on the way to school. He points out that just because they hold hands, they won’t find out she’s a girl. Then, Juri and Takara see them holding hands. Ruka admits his love for Mito and tells them they’re going out.

Mito’s teacher walks up and reminds Mito that exams are coming up and that her test scores were low. Juri suggests that they study together. Ruka volunteers to teach. Mito hears Ren’s motorcycle. She runs down to greet him realizes that he is leaving. He admits he was too ashamed to say goodbye because of the underhanded tactics he used to get her to love him. As he walks away, she thanks him for always protecting her. Before he leaves, he gives her one last kiss.

Takara and Juri are walking to get seats at the library. Takara stops Juri and apologizes for not giving him a straight answer at the bonfire. Juri explains that he’s okay with him liking girls and that Takara coming to check on him was enough. As he turns to go to the library, a sudden feeling came over Takara.

In class, the teacher announces a new transfer student. Everyone notices how handsome he is. Just who is he, and why does Ruka look uncomfortable!

THOUGHTS

Wide open for a second season! Would I watch it? Yes! This show, while predictable, also evoked a lot of emotions.

First of all, can we talk about Ren for a minute? I feel bad for Ren. He had good intentions to begin with, but then allowed his father to taint his feelings for Mito. In the end, he leaves in a trail of dust, heartbroken and on a quest to reflect. I was Team Ren until he pulled all of that underhanded crap to get Mito all to himself.

How about Founder/Komori? He really put Mito and Ruka through the ringer, but he had to prove that Ruka was an appropriate person to be the leader of the vampires. However, doesn’t it seem silly that Founder put his faith in someone’s ability to fight for love? That seems kind of a silly attribute for a leader to have. I could be wrong, but most likely not.

Does Takara finally have feelings for Juri? At the end, he was blushing at how cute Juri was. Does this mean that Juri will get his wish soon?

There are so many unanswered questions!

  1. I totally agree with you! It’s kind of sad how Ren’s story ends, but he really shouldn’t have acted so sneaky. And I love that it’s totally open for a second season. Yeah the series was a bit silly, but it was also fun and very nostalgic. If a second season gets made, I would definitely watch it.
