EPISODE 5: KIKUCHIHARA JIN’S TROUBLES

At the film club meeting, Ichikawa picks a fight with the third year, Kikuchihara Jin. Kikuchihara made a recruitment video for the film club, however, Ichikawa thinks its stupid and that it won’t help in their recruitment. Ichikawa goes on a tirade about Kikuchihara’s egoism. Things heat up and it gets physical. As the second-years and the third-years try to pull them apart, Ichikawa gets lost in thought and thinks about how the moment would be perfect in his next movie. Somehow, the next thing he knows, he is lip-locked with Kikuchihara.

After the incident, the third-years talk about BL and how the second-years might beat them at the festival. However, Kichuchihara’s ego once again goes on display as he shows no worry regarding the second-years. His crew leaves one by one. The last man, Rei, tells Kikuchihara that he sees through him. He knows that Kikuchihara has been watching Ichikawa closely and regards him as a rival. Kikuchihara admits Rei knows almost all of his secrets, but tells Rei he will talk about it when he’s ready. Rei tells Kikuchihara to make up with Ichikawa because it sets a bad example to everyone else.

In the teacher’s lounge, a teacher is talking to Kikuchihara about the fact that he lives in the dorm alone. The teacher mentions that another student is having family issues and will be moving into his room. Embarrassed by the condition he left his room in, he rushes back to the dorm. When he opens the door, he finds someone changing in his room. He quickly closes the door. When it reopens, Kikuchihara finds someone he did not expect.

Rei and Kikuchihara are at dinner and Rei reminds him not to take care of Ichikawa. Kikuchihara chuffs and mentions that he doesn’t have time to take care of the second-year. However, when he gets to the room, the exact opposite happens. He makes a cheat sheet about how to get by in the dorms. For a brief moment, Kikuchihara thinks Ichikawa is adorable. But, that all changes the next day when the third-years are filming.

That evening, Kikuchihara is worried about which personality is going to greet him when he comes home. Luckily, it’s the sweet Ichikawa who doesn’t hold a grudge or malice. Kukichihara notices Ichikawa reading something. When he asks, Ichikawa presents a BL manga. Kukichihara picks a special manga for him to read and they bond over it. Kukichihara laughs and admits that he likes being able to talk to Ichikawa. He admits that he always thought Ichikawa hated him. However, that isn’t the reason Ichikawa gives him crap all the time.

While reading manga, Kikuchihara falls asleep and has a dream where Ichikawa makes an advance. He quickly wakes up and doesn’t know where reality ended and his dream began. It is there he realizes that he likes Ichikawa.

THOUGHTS

Oh? We get two love stories? How awesome! Kukichihara and Ichikawa are the classic enemies becoming lovers. In their room, they can drop the personalities they carved out for themselves and just be their true selves. Once they leave the film club behind, they’re very compatible. I love how they make Ichikawa look totally geeky when he is out during the school day, and quite respectable in the dorm room with his hair down. I am looking forward to more of their love story.
