Episode 1: The Saint Who Never Smiled
The world is filled with monsters, and to protect humankind, “the Saint” exists. The Saint creates barriers with sacred power and uses their power for the protection of their kingdom.
Philia Adenauer is known as the greatest saint of all time and protects the Kingdom of Girtonia. However, the subjects of Girtonia did not relate to Philia as she never smiled and seemed unfriendly.

While walking in town, a young man spots Philia and asks a merchant who she is. The merchant quickly explains that Philia is their saint, however, he younger sister is the loved one. Meanwhile, the townspeople are bombarding Philia following up on their requests. The merchant tells the young man that Philia is the reason their nation turned around. The merchant also discloses that she is so good, that many resent her.
Philia arrives at home only to immediately be berated by her mother and compared to her little sister.

Her mother goes on a tirade and tells Philia that she should spend more time working on her personality. Her mother explains that her cold and distant nature reflects poorly on her. It is clear there is no love for Philia.
After her scolding, Philia reflects on her childhood. Her parents doted on Mia, her little sister. It was then that she decided she had to be perfect to be loved. However, the more she does, the more resented she becomes.
The young man from the market researches Philia. She was born into the Adenauer family known for producing saints. We learn that she is engaged to the second prince of Girtonia, Prince Julius.
When Philia arrives back home that evening, it is obvious that her little sister Mia thinks the world of her. Philia gifts her a hairpin and Mia is over the moon.
The next day, Prince Julius summons Philia. She notices her family’s carriage is already there. Prince Julius lectures Philia on how she does too much and how his soldiers are complaining that she’s taking on too much of their jobs. It is obvious Prince Julius resents Philia.

Prince Julius quickly ends their engagement. He announces he has decided to marry her sister because the lack of charm. Her parents enter the room and tell Philia she needs to bow out since her sister would make a better queen.
Prince Julius then announces that Mia might not agree to the engagement out of consideration of her sister, so he has decided to sell Philia to their neighboring country, Parnacorta.

And just like that, Philia is booted out of her home and out of the country without the opportunity to speak to Mia.
Back at the castle, we learn that there is a first prince by the name of Fernand who is sickly and stays locked in his room.
Philia arrives at Parnacorta and is greeted by fanfare. She doesn’t quite understand what’s going on. The person who greets her is none other than the young man from the market.

THOUGHTS:
Poor Philia. The more she does, the more she is disliked. I can relate, but we won’t go into that.
Prince Julius is an absolute tool and I feel he will only get worse as time goes on. Will his plan to marry Mia backfire? After all, Mia loves her sister more than anyone in the world. What kind of lie will they come up with to make sure she doesn’t resent the prince? What coverup could they possible come up with?
Philia’s parents are despicable. They’re only concerned with their social standing at the expense of their daughter’s mental health. I am hoping Philia grows as a character as she learns how toxic her parents are and how she doesn’t need their love or approval.
I am interested in the character development in this one. Will Philia learn to smile? Who is this mystery blonde that greets her? How will the Kingdom of Parnacorta treat Philia? Will she be ostracized like in Girtonia, or will they embrace her talents? There are so many questions I would like answered. Will continue to monitor.
