Would I leave my current job to move overseas?

ABSOLUTELY.

I cannot stress enough. ABSOLUTELY.

I am a bit sick of this country if I am being honest. I don’t like its leadership, and I don’t like the direction it is going. That’s about as political as I’m going to get on this website.

I would LOVE to move to a Nordic/Scandinavian country or Japan. Unfortunately, I am too old. Moving to a new country and starting a life seems like a young person’s adventure. I’m not sure if I am even employable in those countries. All I have is paralegal experience, and well…that isn’t really transferable to another country. I would have to take a really big leap of faith that I could start a whole different career at this age.

So — My boss has no worries. I seriously doubt I could make an overseas job happen — but if I could — sorry, boss! I’m outta here!

  1. I’m totally with you about moving over seas. My family is already looking into it. It’s really complicated to move to another country and it’s even more so for my family with adults at different stages of their careers and with kids. It’s not impossible, just very tricky. We’ve been taking all sorts of trips to try living in other countries for a few weeks, and we’ve been surprised by what works out great, and not so great. Mexico seemed perfect, until we noticed the serious air pollution problems they have. My family has a lot of people with breathing problems so (though it wasn’t on our must-have list) air quality has to be good. This fall a bunch of my family will be checking out Europe with Albania, Portugal, Italy and England on the list. One things for sure, when moving to another country, it’s not a fast process at all.

  2. I’ve lived in three countries. I grew up in England, moved to New Zealand when I was in my early thirties, and then to Canada in my late thirties. It can be done at older ages, although it is more complicated. That said, if you really want to do it I would say do it. I just wish I had gone exploring the world at a younger age.
