I have a good friend and author writing a story about four women who lovingly call themselves “The Hoes.” It all begins with Jenny Cruz, resident of the fictional northern Californian city of Santa Noria.
Jenny is a trans Latina woman working as a news anchor for the news station, NorCal Nine. Prior to her transition, she was a point guard for the University of Houston male basketball team. She stands at 6 feet tall hailing from Laredo, Texas. She is the lynchpin of the “Hoes.”
JENNY CRUZ
Understanding the negative connotations of the word “hoe,” Jenny decides to make the word her own and no one challenges her on it, because that’s the type of person Jenny is. It becomes a word of empowerment.
We’re introduced to the Hoes:
KLARA MAGNUSSEN
- 6’6″ woman from Norway.
- Learned English from a textbook and takes everything literally.
- Unusually strong.
- Significant other to Jana.
JANA ZEROUALI
- Attorney of Moroccan lineage. Devout Muslim and a lesbian.
- Owns roughly 85-95% of Santa Noria.
- Speaks Arabic, French, English and Norwegian.
- Significant other to Klara.
BELLA KELLY
- 5’0″ Irish woman with a 22-0 record in underground bareknuckle fighting.
- She runs a gym called The Pit where she teaches women to fight.
- Significant other to Jenny but doesn’t identify by any label. She’s just Jenny-sexual.
There is a familiar humor to the Hoes. Klara misunderstands the definition of “hoe” and tells the group with complete sincerity that she is a “big hoe.”
It took Jana translating the English meaning of “hoe” to Klara. After reaching a comprehension of the English translation of “hoe,” she simply says, “Then best hoe.”
The story is character driven like a well-kept Ferrari. All four women live together despite their vastly different backgrounds. The important part of the story are the characters themselves. Each one with their own story, their own aspirations, goals and challenges. Their stories perfectly intertwine and character development is S-tier.
Unfortunately, the story is yet to be completed, but when it is, it will be a wonderful story about four strong, independent women and their lives together.
