Episode 1 Recap. We meet our protagonist, Yuzu, a high school girl yearning for love. Yuzu lives in a world where demons pick humans for their brides. Their brides are cherished and therefore becoming a bride is very prestigious affair. Yuzu’s younger sister has been chosen as a bride and therefore Yuzu’s family treats the younger sister much better than Yuzu. In a fight, Yuzu slaps her younger sister causing Yuzu’s demon fiancé to burn Yuzu’s arm. Wandering the streets, she runs into a demon that claims he has been searching for Yuzu and that she is his bride.
Episode 2: Special Someone
Yuzu is driven to Reiya’s home where he is greeted by the staff. When he introduces Yuzu as his bride, the staff is shocked and immediately goes into a panic as they were not prepared. They are obviously elated. Yuzu enters the building, but as she takes off her shoes, Reiya quickly scoops her up.
As he carries her to the living room, she is shy. She has never been carried by a man before. Sitting on the couch, he asks her to tell him how she got the burn on her arm. He tells her that he wants to protect her from all harm. She begins to tell him how her younger sister was chosen by a fox demon and how she became the center of her household. She tells him that she was all alone. Reiya asks for the dress and that he will treat it with care. The staff comes in and tells her that her room is ready. They wish each other good night.
As she lay in bed, she wonders to herself if she can trust him. She has her doubts. In the middle of the night, Reiya goes into her room to answer her question when she was crying on the bridge and asking him if he would love her. He brushes her hair and tells her while she was sleeping, “With everything I have.”
We learn about Reiya’s past and how he didn’t believe in a fated mate. He is actually in a beneficial business engagement with Sakurako, but tells his staff, Takamichi, to call it off. He does his research on Yuzu’s family and he is told how Yuzu was neglected due to Karin’s engagement. Reiya tells Takamichi to get in touch with Yuzu’s grandparents.
The next morning, Reiya arrives at her room with the same brand clothes as the ones her grandfather bought her. He tells her to get dressed so they could eat breakfast together. At breakfast, two lesser ogres appear. They’re super cute. He asks her if she likes them. When she says yes, he says she can keep them. He says he made them for her.
Just as he gifted the lesser ogres to her, a staff member entered with a bag. He asks her to open it. Inside, the mended dress her grandfather gave her for her birthday was inside. As she started crying, she thanked him as Reiya-san. He told her to call him Reiya as only his bride may call him that. She thanks him as Reiya.
Reiya has a plan. He tells Yuzu that her grandparents would adopt her and that she could live with him and he would pay for all her expenses. It is too sudden and she tells Reiya that it is too sudden and she would have to think about it. He tells he to take her time. Karin then texts her and says she will drop off her things. Yuzu distracts her lesser ogres with her tablet and runs off to meet Karin. Unfortunately Karin has other plans. She throws all of her things off the bridge into the water.
Yuzu is once again heartbroken that no one in her family cares that she’s gone.
Back at Reiya’s household, they’re all in a panic wondering where she went. Once she wanders up, Reiya immediately embraces her and wonders why she’s so cold and only wants to warm her up.
THOUGHTS
All I can think is, “You silly girl.”
But at the same time, can you blame her? She has been through something traumatic and it’s hard to believe that someone loves her.
Karin. I hope she gets what’s coming to her. I really, really do. She’s a spoiled brat, and I hope Reiya has a thing or two to show her and her fox.
Same with Karin’s parents. I hope they end up destitue with nothing.
And, Reiya. Totally swoonworthy, am I right?
