*Blows out a steady stream of air*
If I really consult my heart, I do believe that everything happens for a reason. That even means the heavy, unfair bullshit like heart break, death, and accidents.
I am not a religious person, so I can’t lean into religion for my beliefs. I’m not quite sure where I fall in the spectrum of spirituality. I honestly try not to think about it too hard. That being said, I do believe that things happen in the universe for a reason.
I don’t believe in randomness. I know some people will argue that things that happen in your life are just random events that have no explanation. I don’t believe in that. I feel like choices lead up to that specific moment. Choices that may not even relate to that specific moment. I know, sounds like malarkey, but that’s what I believe.
The most recent example in my life. Over a year ago, my husband convinced me to play a game called EverQuest. There, I met someone. We didn’t get too close, but we were friendly. Things happened that had nothing to do with me and he quit the game. Just up and left. Okay. Fine. It happens more than you think. Months passed. Then, one day, I get a message on my website. It’s said person. He found me. We begin to message back and forth. We began to game together again. Now, I’d say we’re pretty close friends.
What were the chances that: 1) My decisions led me to the moment we met in EverQuest; 2) That our mutual decisions led us to like each other enough to be friendly to each other; and 3) His decisions led him to remember me enough to seek me out after months of no contact and find me.
Then, what were the chances that I needed a friend like him in my life at that particular moment in my life? What was the infinitesimal chance that he would fall in my lap at that exact moment I needed him to?
Things happen for a reason. I 100% believe he came into my life for a reason and those small decisions that may not have had any weight at the time led up to the end result.
Unfortunately, that also means that even the most heinous things happen for a reason and yes, that’s bullshit. Losing someone might motivate change in someone’s life. Traumatic events may prompt self-growth. And sometimes, we may not know the reason why someone goes through something. It may not be apparent. But, I believe there is a reason. It’s just above our pay grade.
Life is balance. I believe that.
