Episode 4 Recap. Yuzu is still questioning Reiya’s feelings for her. She’s afraid that he’s going to leave her despite all she knows about a demon’s love for his bride. She is suddenly reminded that she has to go to work only to find that her guardian told her employer she quit. She goes to her best friend to tell her of her worries who is a bride to a cat demon. The cat demon immediately senses the ogre on her and it is learned she is Reiya’s bride. Reiya finds Yuzu and admits to Reiya that she doesn’t want to wholly depend on him. He tells her that the minute she accepted to be his bride, the rest of her life became his and he kissed her for the first time.

Episode 5: My Rival is a Capable Secretary

Embraced in his kiss, Yuzu is realizing the depth of Reiya’s loyalty. When she tells him she is afraid he’ll toss her aside, he gets offended he is compared to an old boyfriend. He isn’t angry. He’s sulking. He embraces her.

Taking her feelings into account, he offers to allow her to work with him to cover her school expenses.

The next morning, it is time to go to school. Yuzu realizes she has to be driven to school. She questions whether Reiya’s secretary, Takamichi, likes her or not.

At school, things are getting back to normal. That is until her best friend casually drops that Yuzu is now an ogre’s bride and casually flashes his picture to everyone.

The teacher comes in to interrupt and tell everyone to sit down when the lesser demons pop up out of Yuzu’s bag. Charmed by their cuteness, the teacher says nothing can be done now and allows them to remain in class.

At lunch, Yuzu is spoiled with a luxurious lunch. Touko asks if Reiya’s staff is treating her well. Then, Touko drops the bomb that Reiya is already engaged. She tells her that his fiance is popular among the other ogres. Not knowing that, Yuzu begins to have a panic attack.

Seeing her mental crisis, Nyankichi flicks her on the forehead and explains that the human bride comes first. Nyankichi explains a bit more about human brides but that really no one knows much about them or how they work.

At work, Yuzu notices that he is kind and warm to her, but cold and strict with his employees. She senses that can’t be healthy.

Yuzu knocks on Reiya’s door and asks him if he wants to take a break which he accepts. As she leaves, Takamichi stops her. She immediately worries that she screwed something up. He has a job for her. He wants her to take breaks with Reiya. He never stops for breaks and never takes care of himself. She happily accepts.

While working with both of them, she realizes how in sync they are and is in awe of it. She thinks of them as an old married couple. She aspires to be of as use to Reiya as Takamichi is some day.

While alone with Takamichi, she asks Takamichi if is wrong for a bride to work. Takamichi answers honestly and says yes. Other clans might mock them for not having the resources to care for their brides.

Reiya walks in and tell Takamichi to keep his mouth shut. Reiya then tells Yuzu that people are saying that he is forcing her to be with him. Yuzu then worries that she is causing trouble. He says it is fine as long as he can be with her. She then asks if she can visit her grandparents the following week. Reiya says what’s the proper way to make a request. She is bashful knowing that she has to kiss him.

But, she chickens out at the last second.

Standing in the hallway, Takamichi is recalling the day he met Reiya. He was immediately taken by him and totally loyal the minute they met.

Back at the compound, it’s late. Reiya knocks on Yuzu’s door holding many presents. He has her start opening with a bear in order with a note. Each present wishes her a happy birthday starting with her first birthday ending with her eighteenth birthday.

Overwhelmed with joy, she wants to gift Reiya something for giving her so much. Of course, Reiya wants a kiss on the lips and not on the cheek. She immediately says she isn’t ready for that. He pats her head and says her happiness is all he needs. She reaches up and kisses his cheek.

THOUGHTS

What a cute episode!

Her best friend is a bit of a busy body, isn’t she? Sheesh! Advertising her business all over school like it’s her business to tell. I’d be a bit pissed off if it were me. But, that’s not very Yuzu. She’s too forgiving.

I’m on the fence about Takamichi. Is he jealous of the bride? I’m not sure if they’re going to play that card. I hope not. That would definitely cheapen the show a bit.

How sweet was it of Reiya to buy her a gift for every birthday he missed? I teared up a little. Just a little. It was so sweet considering her family never celebrated her birthday.

Will continue to monitor.
