Episode 5 Recap: Yuzu returns to school to hopefully return to a bit of normalcy, but her best friend Touko has other plans and announces that Yuzu is now an Ogre’s Bride. While eating lunch, Touko brings up the fact that Reiya is already engaged. While going down an anxiety spiral, Touko’s demon fiance, Nyankichi, flicks her on the forehead and explains a bride comes first. Takamichi tasks Yuzu with making sure Reiya takes breaks. While working for Reiya, she asks Takamichi his opinion on a bride working. He honestly and openly tells Yuzu he disagrees with it, but Reiya walks in and tells him to close his mouth. Yuzu realizes that Reiya is spoiling her by allowing her to work. Reiya buys a present for each of her 18th birthdays that he missed and she gathers the courage to kiss him on the cheek.
Takamichi is at a friend’s house complaining that Yuzu is not good enough for Reiya. We find out it is actually the home of Reiya’s former fiance, Sakurako. As her brother announces their broken engagement, she brushes it off and asks about Yuzu. Takamichi loses his cool and calls Yuzu an unworthy peasant girl.

At the mansion, Yuzu is getting bored. She isn’t used to being a bird in a gilded cage. She isn’t allowed to help with chores or do anything she is used to doing. Reiya brings her gifts to pass the time.

Meanwhile, the demon family clan heads are having a meeting and show their disappointment that the engagement of Reiya and Sakurako is broken. It becomes clear that her earlier display of indifference was an act. While her brother’s back is turned while walking away, she states she will have to teach Reiya’s ordinary bride a lesson.
At school, the Lesser Ogres are a hit. The sewing club president makes them clothes almost every day. Touko asks Yuzu how things are going with Reiya, but she hesitates. She doesn’t know how to respond to the constant spoiling. Touko tries to help her find her feelings for Reiya, but Yuzu is still unclear on how she really feels. She doesn’t have the courage to take the next step.
Touko takes the time to tell Yuzu the story on how her and Nyankichi met. He grabbed her arm out of nowhere.

Then, he proceeded to show up every day at the outside of her house with a new gift to try to get to know her. With each rejection, he declared that he would win her over and make her fall in love with him. Touko tells Yuzu he was basically a stalker. Yuzu asks what finally made things change. Touko tells Yuzu that one day, he didn’t show up. She was walking around town and saw him with another girl. It made her angry.

So, naturally, she hit him. Come to find out. He was walking with his mother. She tells Yuzu that love is illogical. Even if you’re not sure now, someday you’ll love him so much that you’ll never want to let him go.
It’s the end of the school day and Yuzu is excited because she is going to get to spend a few days with her grandparents. As she is packing up, the class starts squealing. She goes to look out the window and sees Reiya. As she is making her way there, Reiya is having doubts about letting her stay overnight with her grandparents, but Takamichi reminds him he made a promise sealed with a kiss.
Yuzu asks to be dropped off a few houses down. Reiya agrees since he has security assigned to her. He feels something is off, but decides things should be okay. There is a nice car in front of her grandparents house. When she arrives, her grandparents says she has a guest. It’s Sakurako.

Disappointed that they opened up with Takamichi having a temper tantrum about Yuzu. That cheapened things up a bit. I could have done without that.
I could already tell they were going to go the route of the scorned lover. I knew that Sakurako wasn’t going to take the broken engagement lightly. Women of her stature usually don’t. They’re raised to obtain power and well, he power was just taken away from her by a high schooler.
The story about Touko and Nyankichi was cute. It was nice that they show it takes the human a bit to fall in love with their demon counterpart. That it takes work on the demon’s part and they’re willing to put in that work.
I’m wondering where her family is at and whether they will team up with Sakurako?
Will continue to monitor.
