Episode 9 Recap: Yuzu finally confesses her love to Reiya, but it took a misunderstanding for her to understand her feelings. Sakurako, Reiya’s former fiancée, truly believed that Reiya and Takamichi were in a forbidden love relationship. With that misunderstanding cleared up, Yuzu’s doubts are now pushed aside. Back at the fox clan’s home, Karin is throwing a temper tantrum due to her house arrest. When her parents hand her an apology note to give to Yuzu, it becomes apparent that Karin is at her breaking point.

Episode 10: The Demon Banquet

Yuzu is being prepared to meet Reiya’s parents at the banquet. She’s naturally nervous. When Reiya sees her, he wants to lock her up so no one else can see her.

When they arrive at the manor, Yuzu is super nervous. Reiya does his best to calm her nerves. When they arrive at the room his parents are in, he opens the door. When Yuzu begins to introduce herself, she is almost tackled by his mother.

Reiya’s parents are super excitable and Reiya has to reel them in. In fact, he hugs Yuzu and tells his parents that they are scaring her. They sit Yuzu down at a table filled with Japanese and Western treats. Yuzu is more concerned with the fact that she forgot to bring a present for Reiya’s parents. Reiya is so nice to Yuzu that his parents are in shock.

Meanwhile, Yuzu’s parents are trying to find Yuzu by walking in the forest to find the banquet. Reiya’s father is informed by his security. Reiya’s father tells Yuzu they will have someone fetch them after the banquet. Reiya tells Yuzu the fox clan cut her parents off. Senya, Reiya’s father, tells Yuzu that he wonders if Karin will still be the fox clan’s bride after the banquet.

They arrive at the banquet and Senya escorts Yuzu in instead of Reiya. Reiya explains later it was important that Senya escorted her in to emphasize they accepted her as their bride. While eating a parfait, the fox demon clan head arrives. Her name is Nedeshiko and she is second in power to Reiya’s father. She wants to meet Yuzu. In the process, she apologizes for the disrespect from her clan.

Yuzu immediately tells her it’s okay. Nedeshiko pats her on the head and tells her if only her sister was as kind hearted. When she leaves, Reiya tells Yuzu that Nedeshiko liked her.

Yuzu then has to go to the bathroom. On her way back, she runs into Karin. Yuzu has a flashback of what it was like growing up with Karin. Karin was the center of the world. Yuzu tries to walk past Karin, but Karin grabs her arm. Karin blames Yuzu for their parents getting cut off because Yuzu won’t go home. Then Karin brings up the fact that Reiya has a lover and that he won’t love Yuzu. Karin, once again, calls Yuzu ordinary. Yuzu asks Karin if the only reason she can’t accept that Yuzu’s a bride is because Karin is hurting. This pisses Karin off and she says even more hateful things to Yuzu. But, in return, Yuzu agrees. Something in Yuzu died the day she was burned with the fox fire. She tells Karin that she doesn’t need her Mom, Dad, or Karin in her present or future as long as she has Reiya. She turns her back on her sister.

Karin loses her shit and scratches Yuzu’s face. While defending herself, Yuzu smacks Karin. While Yuzu bends over to pick up her hair pin, Karin rushes her and pushes her down the stairs.

Thoughts:

I knew it was just a matter of time before spoiled brat Karin lost her shit. She was a ticking time bomb. That’s what happens when someone gets everything she wants and then all of a sudden doesn’t.

We already know what’s going to happen to Karin. The deal was struck in the prior episode. If she harmed Yuzu, she would be ripped from Youta.

I feel bad for Youta. I really do. I feel like he’s an innocent in all of this. If I understand this correctly, a demon is emotionally connected to his bride. They feel whole and spiritually connected to their human bride. Now, he is going to be ripped apart from her for the rest of his life. He’s going to be incomplete for the rest of his life. She’s going to move on like nothing happened because we’re human. We do that. But him. Oof.

Will continue to monitor.
