Episode 6: Determination and Thunder
SUMMARY
Miyo wakes up after being drugged. She is bound in the abandoned storeroom, where she was locked away as a child. Upon waking up, Kaya and her mother walk in.
Meanwhile, Lord Kudo and Koji are on their way in the car. Koji is growing impatient and is bothered by Lord Kudo’s lack of emotion.
Back in the storeroom, Kaya and her mother begin the verbal assault. Kaya’s mother demands that Miyo reject the engagement. Kaya has other plans in mind. Kaya continues to verbally abuse Miyo and threatens to cut her expensive Kimono. The threats escalate as Miyo stands up against Kaya and her mother. Miyo refuses to give up her life with Lord Kudo. When verbal threats fail to convince Miyo, the physical attacks begin.
Koji and Lord Kudo arrive at the Siamori house where the external doors are barred shut. Using his power, Lord Kudo summons lightning to strike down the entrance, leaving nothing but rubble. Mr. Saimori and Koji’s father try to stop Lord Kudo from finding Miyo. However, they are no match for Lord Kudo, known as the strongest magic user of the times. Unable to stop Lord Kudo, Koji’s father gets angry and decides to use fire. In the process, he sets fire to the Saimori home.
Lord Kudo is unphased by the attacks and continues his march to the storeroom. There, he finds a beaten Miyo. He flees to her side. Kaya tries to save face by telling Kudo that she was only trying to right a wrong. He makes it very clear that he would never marry a person like Kaya. Lord Kudo leaves with Miyo as the Siamori household is destroyed.
Thoughts
This is my favorite episode so far. It was distressing to see the abuse Miyo has suffered at the hands of her sister and stepmother. The lengths they would go to get what they want is despicable. I was angry for Miyo. It also displayed how out of touch with reality Kaya is. Her parents raised a spoiled brat who finds nothing wrong with hurting those she sees beneath her. Seeing Lord Kudo’s power and how nothing would get in his way was amazing. The lengths Koji’s father was willing to go to thwart the marriage only lends to the mystery that is the Usuba family. The events of this episode highlight the strength of the upcoming marriage between Kudo and Miyo.
