Today’s writing prompt was about religion and I have a strict rule on this blog. No political ranting, ravings, or opinions. This is a safe space from such a polarizing topic.
So, instead, I write about one of the world’s lesser known expensive hobbies.
Collecting manga 📚
This is a new hobby of mine. I’ve recently acquired the taste of reading manga. However, the “collecting” part makes me cry. Like, literally cry. There is so much manga that I want to own, so little space to put it, and a wallet that cries like a hungry toddler when I realize each book is roughly $10-15 USD. It is not uncommon for a series to have 10 or more books. Yeah, it hurts.
So, what’s the plan? Right now, I renewed my library card. I haven’t been to the public library in over a decade. Our local library has a decent size collection. Enough to perhaps keep me busy for a few months.
Currently, I am reading:
- Hirano and Kagiura
- My Love Mix-Up
- Waiting for Spring
My other plan to help alleviate the hit to the wallet AND the space issue is buying manga on my Kindle. I can stomach $6-8 USD per digital copy. So far, I don’t mind it. It isn’t as nice as having the physical copy, but I don’t really have the available room. My dream is to have a manga library someday. But, for now, Kindle when I can.
I do plan on sharing posts on My Love Mix-Up so look forward to that content.
Do you have a hobby that hits the pocket book hard?
