I sat on K-Pop Demon Hunters for awhile. The concept sounded so silly to me even though I am a fan of K-Pop. Honestly, how GOOD can it be? Really.
Synopsis: Female K-Pop group Huntr/x is on top of the world, but they’re hiding a secret. They are actually generational demon hunters that exist to keep demons at bay. Gifted with magical voices, they maintain a barrier called the Honmoon. Their goal? To turn the Honmoon golden to banish demons forever.

To thwart their efforts, the demons create a male K-Pop group called the Saja Boys who aim to steal Huntr/x’s fans.

I’ll stop there because I really don’t want to give away more than that.
THOUGHTS
Okay. I totally get it now. It’s catchy. What I thought was ridiculous suddenly became endearing.
Humor. There is a lot of humor. The girls have three distinct personalities that blend together harmoniously. They’re obsessed with their couch and spending time on their couch. The show touches on the hard work K-Pop groups expose themselves to and how simple things, such as a couch, are so precious.

Predictability. I know, I know. I am probably one of the few people on Earth that likes predictability. It’s like a security blanket. I love seeing different angles of a similar storyline. K-Pop Demon Hunter doesn’t sway far from the typical love story and sacrifice for someone they love.
The music. The music is catchy AF. It’s days after watching the movie and I am still humming “Soda Pop” by the Saja Boys. Huntr/x also has some bangers. The songs from Saja Boys reminds me of what people THINK K-Pop is. In other words, no real depth to the lyrics and a heavy focus on performance. The songs by Huntr/x have some hard-hitting lyrics and remind me of a female version of BTS.
Overall, I liked the movie. It was entertaining throughout. Bits of drama and humor in just the right amounts. That being said, I definitely see it not being for everyone. I am going to go out on a limb and say if you don’t like musicals, you won’t like this movie.
