Hi. everyone!

We are back from our cruise to Aruba. It was exactly what I needed. The beaches were so pretty. We had an excellent time and I would definitely recommend the cruise if you’re in the market.

The cruise started with a few hiccups. Shortly after sail away, there was a medical emergency that required us to turn back to port. Then, there was another medical emergency at 10:30 p.m. causing us to have to turn back around again.

Bonaire.  Due to the two medical emergencies, we were about four hours behind schedule. We ended up getting to port around 1 p.m. This, unfortunately, put a dampner on our plans. We had originally planned to go to No Name Beach in Klein Bonaire, but the late arrival caused us to call an audible. Instead of going to the beach, we only went shopping. It was a really cute island and we had a blast shopping. They had an arts market where my mother-in-law bought me some really cute earrings. My husband also enjoyed the shopping buying us a cute little sign for our kitchen.

Curacao. Curacao was amazing. We arrived in port at 8 a.m. We hopped on a rideshare and made our way to Mambo Beach. It was absolutely beautiful. It was nice to be the first on the beach. Because it is a man-made beach, the water was calm, but it was also super cold. It did not stop us from enjoying the ocean. We did more shopping, but the shopping in Bonaire was much more successful.

Aruba. It was worth the wait. Aruba was absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, Aruba was our shortest port of call. We arrived at 7:00 a.m. and had to be all aboard by 3:30. We immediately found a taxi and made our way to Eagle Beach. The beach was so awesome. It was a bit windy and there was a lot of surf but we didn’t let it ruin our fun. A huge wave tagged me and it knocked me off my feet. We laughed pretty hard. We also took some time to do some shopping. I was able to find some cute keychains for my co-workers.

I have no complaints about the cruise. It was worth the year wait. I am sad that it came to an end. The island life definitely suits me. Even Casey enjoyed himself. He never hit me as a water person, but he had so much fun in Aruba. I wish I thought to take video of him dancing in the ocean.

Time on the ship was relaxing. We hit up the hot tub as much as we could and drank to our heart’s content. We did witness an eldery woman trip and fall. Casey had to hold open the door so it wouldn’t close on her while the staff got medical in route. She busted up her face pretty good. I felt so bad for her. There was blood everywhere.

There were maybe 20 kids total on this cruise and I loved it! I would say the median age on this cruise was 60. Definitely more our speed compared to the family-oriented Royal Carribean cruise we took last year. We’re definitely old souls. It was relaxing not having kids running around and doing what kids do.

My mother-in-law got me a new Pandora charm for my bracelet. She’s awesome. Every time she cruises, she buys me one.

Casey and I went to arts and crafts a lot. We made a button necklace, a felt cup holder, and some paper flowers.

The travel day back was a nightmare. We flew from Ft. Lauderdale to Charlotte. We were supposed to have a 3-hour layover which then turned into 7 hours. Our gate changed three times. At one of the gates, a plane had to have one of its tires changed. When we finally got assigned to the final gate, we were standing next to the pilot who let us know that the delay was due to a mechanical issue with the plane. That’s always comforting. Then, there was another 20-minute delay because the cleaning crew did not clean the plane. We finally made it back to Austin early in the morning.

Here is a short video of our trip.

  1. […] The Cruise. If you haven’t already read about it, we went on a cruise at the beginning of March to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. It was amazing and we wish we were still there! You can read about it here: Cruise to the ABC Islands […]
