Daily writing prompt
What is one way you have grown this year?

As I look back as the first half of 2026, there is only one way I have grown that is worth mentioning, but it is a very important way to grow.

Trust.

Trust is something I don’t give freely. I’ve had trauma in my life centered around males that makes trust hard to give easily. I’ve had multiple male partners have affairs. I’ve also had a fiancé get hit by a drunk driver and die. That created a whole different set of trust issues.

I played a game called EverQuest in 2025. I made a friend in that game, but he suddenly quit and left me. My feelings were quite hurt, because there was no goodbye. Literally just up and quit one day and never came back.

In February 2026, I received the most unexpected comment on my website. It was my EverQuest friend. I was cautious at first, but we began to talk every day. We eventually began to game together again. Slowly, that turned into an every day event. Then, we started texting and talking on Discord every day. And, suddenly, I began to slowly trust him with more and more. Before I knew it, I began to fully trust him.

I know it has only been half a year, but I consider him a very close friend. He knows me better than most.

So, I feel that is where I have grown the most this year. I feel that I have learned to trust a little more. I feel I have allowed my heart to get past a little trauma. This half-year has made me realize that not every one is out to crush me. It has encouraged me to take a chance on someone. You can’t go on living life suspecting everyone of being a villain waiting to destroy you. I’m not saying that you openly trust everyone. You still have to be cautious, but also be open to the idea of letting someone in every once in awhile. It’s a delicate balance.

  1. The sensation of ‘trust’ is a silent voice in your head. The feeling of ‘safe’ and supported in the steps you take.

  2. Yay, I’m so happy for you! Trust is a wonderful thing to have or develop. Lol, I have trust in spades! In fact, my family has pointed out many times that I have a bit too much trust. I tend to go around with rose colored glasses super glued on. I want to see the best in everyone and everything. And yes, that means that I’ve been lied to, exploited, and taken advantage of many, many, maaaaaaany times. Unfortunately, my first reaction is always to believe someone and always tell them the true in return. Even when it would not be in my best interests. And honestly, when I think back on all the times people have been untruthful, I don’t think I would change anything that I did. I would rather continue believing that the world is a good place filled with good people and be wrong a few times than constantly living in fear and hiding from all the scary bad guys that might out there.

    1. I definitely see the freedom in being able to freely live your life from the shackles of distrust. I envy you. I’m learning bit by bit to trust more freely. I’m a work in progress!
