Rich Girl Caretaker: I’m Secretly the Caregiver of the Most Popular Girl in This Rich Kid School

Genre: Romantic comedy
Episode 1
We start off at Kiou Gakuin, one of the top three prestigious schools in Japan, with our male protagonist, Tomonari. As he looks up at the school, Konohana shows up. It is immediately apparent that she is the popular girl at the school with students looking up to her. She approaches Tomonari and they enter the school together.
We rewind to the day prior. We learn that Tomonari’s parents are gamblers and drinkers and Tomonari had to work to pay his own tuition. As he comes home from a job, he arrives at his apartment to find his parents gone. They left a note that simply said, “See ya.”
He desperately looks for his bank book, and its gone. His parents abandoned him and took all of his tuition money. He goes for a walk and passes Konohana. As she walks off, he finds her wallet on the ground. As he calls out to her, kidnappers grab them both.

We learn that she is the Konohana Group family heiress. As the kidnappers praise each other for their find, Konohana announces she has to go to the bathroom. They allow her to go to the bathroom and she announces that she’s done. Her personality has definitely changed from the put-together girl on the street. She can’t even properly drink from a plastic bottle.

She decides she wants to take a nap. She tells Tomonari that help should arrive soon. He offers her his lap and despite all that’s going on, she falls fast asleep. The kidnappers are getting restless and on a phone call say they’re going to start roughing up the girl. Tomonari tells her that he would make a good shield if it comes to it. She asks him why he would do that. Reflecting on his situation, he just wants to be able to help someone. He simply says, “I’m not really sure.”
She starts to evaluate him. He’s good. He’s comfortable. He smells good. She starts talking about her prior caretakers and how he’s chill. She likes that. She asks him for his name. Just after he tells her his name, the strike team arrives and frees them. Then she points to her maid and simply says, “I want this guy.”

The maid immediately agrees and says she will make the arrangements. She does a thorough background check and discovers his situation. She offers him a proposal while Konohara uses him as a pillow. The position is caretaker.
As they arrive at the house, it is grand. Tomonari is astounded at its size. The maid, Shizune, tells him he needs to get used to it. Tomonari is taken to Konohara’s father where he observes how quickly she warmed up to Tomonari. They play Tomonari a video on the nature of Konohara. She’s a perfect lady most of the time, be she slips up and reverts to the girl he knows. The clumsy, demanding, very sleepy Konohara. Her last caretaker was hospitalized with a stress ulcer. Konohara’s father offers Tomonari a great sum of money, but when Tomanari reels from the amount, Konohara’s father tells him that the job is demanding. He must ensure that Konohara stays in the best light possible to snag a great husband so she can maintain the Konohara image and brand. After settling on 20,000 yen a day, he accepts the job.
Immediately, he is inundated with manuals on how to be her caretaker, school books, and references. Shizune then tests his self-defense skills to which he begs her not to kill him. As he goes to his room, he finds a sleeping Konohara in his bed. She simply says, “Caretaker’s bed is my bed.”

THOUGHTS
I thought that I wasn’t going to enjoy this one, but I found myself really liking it. I like that Konohara, while extremely rich, doesn’t seem like a brat. Sure, she’s demanding, but I am not rich and can be demanding. I ended up really liking her character because she seems human. We all have masks we wear. Her mask is just super important.
I really like Tomonari. He’s a good kid with a good heart. Despite his crumbling life, he did his best to help Konohara.
I get the feeling that they’re made for each other and I am here for it. Will continue to monitor.
