The Duke’s Son Claims He Won’t Love Me, Yet Showers Me With Adoration

Genre: Romantic Fantasy
Episode 1: A Marriage Just for Show
It’s their wedding day. Excusing himself, Lord Julius Royus introduces himself to his bride, Elsa Eukarainen.
Back at her village, it is apparent that Lady Elsa is loved by all. After harvesting vegetables, she goes to the local orphanage and drops off her excess. Then, a man comes in and thanks her for the work clothes she made. The Matron of the orphanage and the man talk about how kind she is and how if times were different, she would be a princess. It seems the village has fallen on hard times. It’s nighttime and she is thinking of ways to make ends meet. She looks over a marriage proposal to a man about her father’s age. She is 19 now and needs to consider such things.

Just as she was about to accept the marriage to the older man, her parents tell her that Lord Julis Royus, personal aide to the crown prince, is asking for her hand in marriage. Hannes, her brother, suspects some kind of devious plan. After all, their village has nothing to offer him. However, when his aides came to visit the village, they immediately offered to help renovate the buildings. Hearing this, Elsa immediately accepts the proposal.
Fast forward to her wedding day. She still hasn’t met Julius in person…until now. He introduces himself and then thanks for for accepting his marriage proposal.

After the ceremony, they retreat to a lavish garden party where Elsa begins to wonder if she really has been tricked. Julius is kind and the party is wonderful. Elsa meets a few of Julius acquaintances with one, Serafina, being particularly nasty towards her.
Once they get home, Julius tells her one thing. He turns cold and tells her has no intention of ever loving her.

He gives her three conditions:
- Behave in a manner befitting of a wife of a future duke.
- Don’t interfere in his affairs.
- When in front of others, act if they are an intimate couple.
Instead of being insulted, she cheerfully accepts his conditions and tells him she looks forward to their continued partnership.
As the prince undresses, he recalls the conversation with the crown prince. He asks him to marry Elsa for the safety of the kingdom. He doesn’t want their enemies to get their hands on her. We learn that he marries Elsa out of duty to his country.
In another scene, we meet Serafina’s brother, Jarmo. He is plotting something.

THOUGHTS
I am interested to see where this one goes. Elsa is obviously a very sweet and considerate girl. Her nature is kind and loving. I don’t see how Julius can resist her for that long. I suspect that he will slowly fall in love with her kind nature.
Will continue to monitor.
